Luk 15:11 And he said, A certain man had two
sons:
Luk 15:12 And the younger of them said to his
father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he
divided unto them his living.
Luk 15:13 And not many days after the younger
son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted
his substance with riotous living.
This young
man got tired of the good life. Got tired of living under His father’s “rules”,
His Father’s Law, His Father’s restrictions. (How many times have we seen that,
done that?) He had forgotten all that was afforded to him and rather focused on
the no’s.
He got tired
of the burdensome life he is being forced to live, the poor dear. He says dad,
give me mine inheritance (which he will only ever receive because of dad and
His Sacrifice) that I might go and live a better life. Basically, this kid is
saying dad I am smarter than you and if you will give me My money I will have a
much better life.
Yet what happens when he goes out to the other life? He runs through the money, is left in a ruinous state for he left the place that cared for him, sacrificed for Him, provided for him. Why? Because he was tired of the good life!
Do you understand
that?
This kid was
tired of the rules, tired of being held back by his father, yet the Father was
the only thing, the only one in his life that cared about him.
All too
often we Christians leave the God that sacrificed for us, called us out of sin
and gave us Life.
We know
better than He what is best for us (or so we think).
Until we get
back to a right relationship with Him, calling sin sin, calling right right and
wrong wrong we will be at odds with the Father.
It is time
to get back to His house, His rules, His Way.
The prodigal son left his Father where he was a son and an heir, and he went out and became a servant to the world.
How sad and yet we too keep doing that very same thing.
