Luk 5:24 But that ye may know that the Son of
man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the
palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine
house.
Luk 5:25 And immediately he rose up before
them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house,
glorifying God.
Luk 5:26 And they were all amazed, and they
glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things
to day.
Jesus heals
the paralyzed man right in front of them, He says your sins are forgiven, but
He heals physically right there they see with their own eyes yet they do not
believe the power they just saw manifested.
The healed
man takes the bed He was just laying on, that his friends carried him in and
took apart a roof (that they were now going to have to fix) to get him to Jesus
while on a bed and he was healed.
Yet this man
did not stand and just quietly walk out. No this man left this house Glorifying
God! He left the presence of the savior a changed man, not just in the
physical, no he walked away singing and Glorifying the God that changed his
life.
They were
all amazed and glorified God. They were filled with fear, and they knew they
saw something different on this day than what they were used to.
This is a
marked difference for the Scribes and the Pharisees. Why?
They are
glorifying God because of the miracle, because of the power they personally
just saw but just a few minutes later they change their tune.
It is
amazing how fast people can turn on you. They see miracles never done before in
history right in front of their eyes and what do they do? The glorify God.
Rightfully so.
Yet now in
just a few verses, the time frame is the very same day this happens.
Luk 5:30 But their scribes and Pharisees
murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans
and sinners?
This is where
Jesus, in their eyes, went wrong. He decided to go out and be amongst the
little people. Then they see His disciples not washing their hands before
eating and now they are down right against Him.
When He
tells you that the world will not like you, when they turn on you faster than
the wind blows He can commiserate for they just did the same thing to Him. When
they didn’t like His message all of a sudden, He is of Beelzebub for He didn’t
make His disciples wash. OH NO!
When Jesus
broke their traditions, their customs they just went nuts. When He went against
their favorite things they lost their minds. They did not want to hear His
message they wanted to play church.
Oh church
even today we do this!
Jesus came
in a manner they were not accustomed to. They saw His power, they saw the lives
changed, yet because He was not of them they decided to ruin Him.
The funny
part? He wasn’t in their church, He wasn’t in the Temple, He was in someone’s
house. He was not going out of His way
to irritate them, or humiliate them, He was trying to reach the people for God.
They hated Him for it.
