Today I want to bring to you an example. When people say you, as a Christian, or a pastor or a preacher should not be in politics, should not talk about it, should not preach about it, ignore them.
If the Christian is not involved in politics, then you are leaving a whole lot up to the god of this world and it will never end well. We know the god of this world has influence, we know he has this world, but at what point do we stop trying, stop living for it? At what point do we give in and give up to the wickedness of this world?
2Ki 11:17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people, that they should be the LORD'S people; between the king also and the people.
A little backstory here. Athaliah, Jezebel's daughter, was married to Joram king of Judah. Her husband walked after the ways of Ahab, he was wicked yet he died and her son reigned and she by proxy. When her son is killed by Jehu, she proceeds to kill all the male heirs in line for the throne. She wanted to have power, to retain her station so she murdered the male heirs.
2Ki 11:1 And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.
In case you missed it, her sons, nephews, and grandsons were those heirs. She literally killed her children to maintain power, yet one was whisked away at the tender age of less than a year old and was kept in secret.
She was such a wicked ruler the people fomented a rebellion led by - the Priest of God Jehoida. Jehoida raised the king for 6 years with Jehosheba, who was Athaliah's sister.
2Ki 11:4 And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and shewed them the king's son.
This account is in full in 2 kings 11, I am going to give you the abridged edition.
Jehoida raised the king the right way, God's way. Jehosheba, stole the child out of the palace and she ran to the house of God. Jehoida, seeing what God had given him, did the right thing and he is going to fix the situation and he is not going to wait on anyone else to do it.
Jehoida gets the people ready, gets the guard ready and they get it done in the 7th year of Athaliah's reign.
Once Jehoida secures the king upon the throne what does he do?
2Ki 11:17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people, that they should be the LORD'S people; between the king also and the people.
2Ki 11:18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the LORD.
He makes a covenant between the Lord, the king and the people. Then he makes another covenant between the king and the people. The people agree to this, the king agrees to this and they then go out and tear down the house of baal.
Jehoida sets the tone, Jehoida sets the example, Jehoida does what he has to do to get his nation, his people right with God.
He got involved in politics because no one else would do the job. He got involved in fixing his nation for it was going the wrong way.
John the Baptist was killed for telling the king of his sin, preaching against it, and making a stand. He did not stop taking a stand, when faced with death he never softened his stance on sin. He stood before Herod and told him he was in sin, doing wrong.
Mat 14:3 For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.
Mat 14:4 For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
If ever you believe in the Church and the Christian staying out of politics, it is time to stop that and get to praying and serving.
It is time for the Christian to live for what they believe in, there is a world, a nation going the wrong way and we have to take the muzzle off and tell the world they are in sin. Tell the world of Jesus for He is the Way the Truth and the Life. Only He can fix us.
