I think the biggest thing in the Christian faith that I run into people not understanding the most is, The Relationship.
I see so many trying to understand prophecy, the doctrines, and the deep theological part and they seem to be missing the essential, which is that God wants to talk to them, know them and have them know Him. We as humans are so caught up in me and the day ahead that we fail to see God as the God who wants to talk to us, who wants us to talk with Him not just at Him.
Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Gal 4:7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Does that thought ever leave you awestruck? That you are a child of the King? The Creator of everything wants to talk with you, share things with you, be a friend and confidant. This is He that has literally moved heaven and earth for you and me and He wants to know us, talk to us, and have us know Him.
When that thought hits you we all ought to be on our knees from the realization.
I have said it so many times before and I am going to say it again. My kids really helped me understand God. He wants me to grow, to be like Him, to know the fullness of life and the joy of Him and the life He has in store for me if I will but listen to Him.
He wants me to know what happens if I go astray, the chastening if I step out of line, the Love when I do right.
God is no different than you and I with our kids.
Just as you can not wait till they can talk with you, share their day with you, their joy, their sorrow. So too does God wait for you to come to Him with your day, your joy, your sorrows. Just as their smile brightens your day, so too does your smile and love brighten His.
The Creator of all wants to talk with you, walk with you.
You need look no further than Genesis for proof.
Gen 5:23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:
Gen 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
God took Enoch to heaven to be with Him, He enjoyed Enoch's company so much He took him. God wants to talk and walk with us.
Jesus Communed with the Father almost constantly and He was God. How much more so do we need to commune with Him?
James the brother of Christ, who was not a believer till after the resurrection, was called camel knees for all the time he spent on his knees in prayer.
God wants a relationship with us.
Yet He will not force us, He wants us to come to Him, talk to Him, grow in grace and knowledge. To be holy as He is holy.
Just as we want our kids to be our legacy, so to does God want us to be His legacy. His Heir. His Ambassador. His friend.
Just as you want them to pick up a phone and call so too does He want to hear from you.
He wants a relationship with you. Not a drive by.
