The lesson of the fig tree?

Mar 11:12 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:

Mar 11:13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.

Mar 11:14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.

I do not know how many of you are familiar with all the events in the cursing of the fig tree, but when I read it it chills me to the bone.

Why?

Because the tree was not fulfilling God's purpose for it. It was made to feed the world, it looked big and imposing, full of fruit, full of lifegiving sustenance but it was a fraud.

Jesus (God Himself) said you are not bearing fruit, you shall never feed anyone again. The death sentence has been proinounced and the tree will wither and die. Yet it is how it dies, how fast it dies, and the sheer change in appearance for the tree.

Mar 11:20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.

Mar 11:21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.

Mar 11:22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

It died in a very short time, for God had cursed it, spoke to it and all of Creation heard Him.

This is a major miracle when you think of it. The sea and winds calmed when He spoke, Lazarus came forth when He spoke, and now the ground listened to Him and made His Will happen when
He but spoke. Monday He cursed the tree, Tuesday it was withered.

The tree withered from the roots up. FROM THE ROOTS UP.

This can only mean the earth that God created, stopped giving nourishment to the tree. Stopped all food, the source of life, from getting to the tree, that the very earth we walk on carried out God's Will.

Fascinating!

There is a lesson here, for the fraudsters preaching a false gospel leading people astray with no sustenance, for those bearing no fruit while putting on a show for the world to see. For those pretending to be what they are not.

Will we learn the lesson of the fig tree?
