I want to build on something I saud earlier today, a fear, a concern. This morning in Sunday School I presented Jonah, and it is a worthy thing to read and understand Jonah.
Yet the end of Jonah, the very last few verses are driving me to distraction.
Jon 4:9 And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.
Jon 4:10 Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
Jon 4:11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
Jonah is being called out by God for being more concerned over a gourd, than the souls and lives of thousands and thousands.
I am concerned because I believe this might very well be affecting me. I have lost a bit of my edge and have lost some of the fire in witnessing and telling folks of Jesus. I rail against abortions, and drugs, sina and perversions, But I have not done my job fully, which is to witness and thousands have died and gone to hell.
I am seriously thinking here. I don't preach as much, write as much, witness as much. I have allowed a "slump" to take place.
But that's not my only concern with that section of scripture.God has said Jonah is more concerned for a gourd that he (Jonah) had no vested interest in, no investment in, no effort into it growing, but not a single ounce of concern for souls.
I know people like that. People more concerned for the killing of animals than people going to Hell, people more concerned for the animals killed for food than for the people going to Hell. People more concerned for the "wellness" of people's esteem than for their souls and eternal damnation.
God is concerned for His Creation, He created man in His Image, He came to this earth and died for us, and we could not care less for our fellow man living, dying and going to Hell.
Ok, for all those of you who read this and say "But I care I go to church and I witness, and I serve". Bully for you. What about the ones who do not? We the God fearing Christians of this nation are losing our battle, we will win the war yes that is true but many of us have retired from the battlefield because we win in the end. The end is not here yet. We must strive on.
God never told me to prepare for the end, God told me to prepare for the return of Jesus. That preparation is simple, to tell as many as we can and get them ready for the return of Jesus. The soul of your dog or cat is not at stake. The soul of a cow or pig is not at stake, the soul of the trees is not at stake. The Soul of your fellow man, your brother, sister, father, mother, uncle, aunt, neighbor, clerk at the gas station, cashier at the store, is.
