Here we are once again at the time of year that we celebrate Easter.
Yes the celebration of Easter comes once a year even though every Sunday should be a celebration of the Resurrection.
The question that pops into my head from this event in History is this: Why do we call it the Passion of The Christ?
Mat 16:21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
Mat 16:22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
Mat 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
Why do we call it the Passion of the Christ? Because Christ was here to die, He came for a specific purpose, Calvary. He set His eyes on that purpose and that purpose alone and He fulfilled His purpose. God had given Him a task and He saw it through to the very end.
He was Passionate about His Father's Will. His Passion was to die, that through His death we might live.
He gave us Life, What is your passion in the Life He gave you?
Is it to be about the Father's Will?
Soul-winning?
Bus routes?
Serving the underserved?
What is your passion? Where is your passion?
Is it going to the lake on Sunday after church and forgetting there are more services than just Sunday morning? Watching the sporting events on tv and ignoring the Church?
Is your passion anything that does not honor and glorify God?
Paul set his face to go to Rome.
Christ moved resolutely to the cross.
Stephen witnessed even though it cost his life.
The church of today for the most part lacks passion. It lacks energy. Why? How can we call our selves Christians which means Christ like when we are not passionate about the Father's Will as He was? Even at the age of 12 He was about His Father's business.
Luk 2:48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
Luk 2:49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
Christ was all about the task that God had created Him for, What is your commitment to the Will of the Father for your life? What is your passion for the Father and His Will?
What is His Will? That all may come to Repentance, this is our task - to tell them.
Do you have any Passion at all? Or are you one of those just glad you got yours, and have skipped Hell all else is gravy?
Where is your mind? Is it on things above or is it on the mundane? every now and then genuflecting in God's general direction?
Php_4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
The things to dwell on are in the scriptures, God's Word. When you dwell in the Word, you will have a passion for the Father.
God has a passion for you, He created you, He then came and died for you when there was no other way for you to reconcile yourself to Him because of sin, even now He calls for you to come to Him.
He has a passion for you, do you have that same passion for Him?
I can not tell you how many time I see people getting excited, ready to fight over a ball game, a face mask, a difference of opinion. Being ready to fight is great as long as the fight you are ready for is the one with eternal consequences. All else is sinking sand.
Where is your passion Church? Where is your passion Christian? Where is your passion Christ follower?
