Psalm 1

Psa 1:1  Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 
Psa 1:2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 
Psa 1:3  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 
Psa 1:4  The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 
Psa 1:5  Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 
Psa 1:6  For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. 
.
We often take this Psalm and treat it as just for young people, but young is a relative thing.
To Peter PJ is young
To me Pete is young.
To Gary I am young.
To Gene Gary is young.
To methusaleh Gene is middle aged.
This is true for all ages  for we are always young and dumb in the ways of God.
At 51 I am still waiting for the older and wiser part.

Blessed is the man. How do you get blessed?  you do what is said in these next few verses.
How do you prosper? you listen to the words written below. 
It tells you how to prosper how to be blessed and yet we dont see it. We do not believe it. We do not consider it. To consider something means to dwell on it, mull it over see it from all the angles.

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the Counsel of the ungodly.
It doesn't say that walks among the ungodly, or in the house of the ungodly. It says in the counsel of the ungodly. Do not go to the world for advice. For you are not of this world.
It doesn't say don't witness, Don't testify. 
it says to walk not in their counsel. you must witness and testify but you should not heed their advice, their arguments, their ways, their words, their logic.
What does the ungodly have to do with the Godly? Nothing.
What do you have in common with them? Nothing.
What do they have that you need? Nothing.
So why would you listen to them?
That's like an adult going to his 5 yr old for advice on how to live their life.
at 5 the child wants cake and ice cream all the time. Adults are supposed to know better than that. Unless your wife is out of town. then all bets are off.

Nor standeth in the way of sinners, in the way of a sinner. That means we do not go where they go, we do not hang out where they hang out. We do not seek out their company for to be like them. We are to be an example for them, not one of them. Not to do as they do or be where they go. We are to be a light shining on a hill that shines the way home for them. We are to be among them but not of them.
Do you have a "friend" you hangout with that may not be the Godly influence? that may be the one always urging trouble, going out to where you shouldnt go? I don't mean the one who wants to go rob banks, but one who keeps you from the Word of God or the house of God because it isn't important to them. or because it contradicts what they want to do where they want to go so they do not listen.
Get away from them.
Remember it says the way of sinners, the counsel of the ungodly, this doesn't just mean the unsaved, it means the carnal christian.  The make believe christians that have the husk of a christian but inside is no fruit of a christian.

Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. What exactly does this mean? the scornful?
Remember in school way way back for most of us when you had that one student who always thought they knew better, that they didn't need the school? Do you remember the ones who told you you could do just enough to get by because it would never amount to much anyway?
The ones who tell you that christian life is fine as long as you don't let the real people see it. the ones who tell you that you are good enough, there is no need for you to be in God's Word every day.
That God surely wont judge or be wrathful. That God will accept you as you are there is no need to change or to seek Him. He is love after all.
That is a scorner for God's Law says there must be a judgment.
The scorner hates the Law of God and refuses to abide by the reality that God has a line, the scorner says yes i know the Bible but refuses to abide by the very truths in the the Bible. The Scorner will be more like the serpent that says "Did God say"? Yes God has said, God has set lines and boundaries, The lines are clearly marked and if you cross it there will be a price to pay.
The scorner is one who sees God's Law and tells someone else it just aint true.
and this is not necessarily in words, but the one who lives as if God's Law doesnt matter.

We all have an idea of a scorner,scoffer.... an usaved leather jacket wearing hoodlum, hanging out in parking lots looking for mischief But the scoffer could be wearing a three piece suit, sitting next to you, a scoffer, a scorner could be anyone. The ones who try to straddle the world as they try to go to church and be all "righteous".
However, if you watch them you will see a difference for their words and actions do not add up.
For your example is far more illuminating than your words.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord.
He delights in the Law of the Lord. How do we delight in the law of the Lord?
We meet with those who also love the Law, we talk to people who love the Law, We tell those who are unaware of the Law.
The Law of God was summed by Jesus into 2 commandments.
Love God, Love they neighbor.
So a true love will tell those who do not know,of a God who died for them, who loves them, and who will change their life.

His delight  is in the Law of the Lord. His delight, remember when you and your first love first found each other? the secret touching, the always wanting to be around them, the laugh, the smile you couldnt wait to see, the eyes that shone for you? That's what the Law of God should be for you every day.
The Word can't wait for you to get to it every day, you can't wait to get to the Word. The Law of the Lord is your delight. Why?

Remember growing up when you got an "A" from school and you couldn't wait to get home to tell your mom and dad? Why? Because you made them happy with a good grade. So do we make God happy when we are in His Word. Living in His Word, Walking in His Word.

In His Law doth he meditate day and night. God's Word is true and we daily, nightly are dwelling in, living on His Word. He is our first thought in the morning and our last thought at night.

He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water.
This is most interesting. God used a mustard seed to describe faith, but He uses a Tree to picture the Christian rooted in His word.
A tree, 
not an biannual, Showing up at Christmas or Easter
not an annual, Showing up on Mothers day
Not a bush, shallow roots and limited reach
not a flower, who fades away as the seasons change
Not a weed stealing the life from the real roots.
But a tree. Whose roots are deep, who in the times of winter may shed leaves, may not give forth fruit, but in the Word will spring back to life bearing fruit, growing and being a living symbol of the One True God.
What happens to a tree in it's lifetime?
Does it move? No. It stays planted, always serving the Will of the Creator, giving life to all around it in the oxygen it produces.
It takes the carbon dioxide emitted from the living beings around it and turns it into life giving, life sustaining, air.

Have you ever seen the Nile river in Africa? It runs right through the Sahara desert.  The largest desert in the world (non-polar) has one of the biggest rivers running through it.
the desert is barren, dry, dusty except next to the river. Next to the river you can see life, trees, lush greenery. But you go just a few feet or yards from the river and it is nothing but desert. A mighty river of life runs through it, but it is death all around that river.
Leave the river and you die.

That tree is planted, that tree has life, that tree never changes.
we know that it is physically impossible for that tree to move on its own. 
God must move it or the water source must be diverted.
So should it be for the Christian, unable to do anything but serve God our Father. Unable to move or change.
Standards stay the same, life stays vibrant and green because we are planted next to the water of life.
The world around us may change but we are a symbol to a dry and barren landscape , a vibrant living symbol of the refreshment, of the life given by the Water to all who thirst.
A tree standing tall, leading all to the water of Life.

That tree bringeth forth fruit, that tree will not lose leaves for it has water, nutrients in the soil that keep it alive.
Whatsoever that tree that is planted by the rivers of water doeth, shall prosper.
In case you didn't quite get it the tree is a metaphor for those who live in the Word of God, in the Law of God. If you do what is in the Law you shall prosper, you shall bring forth fruit, you shall be a symbol to all those around you of a good and loving God who will keep you vibrant and green if you are in the Law in the Word and planted firmly.

But, the ungodly are not so. Why? because the ungodly are not planted in the Law.  The ungodly are scorners, scoffers.
I do not think I can stress enough that it does not say saved and unsaved. it says the ungodly.
You can be in church and be a scorner, a scoffer, and ungodly. You can be in church and be a sinner, unsaved and lost and dying in your sin.
You can be in church and be a weed, or the chaff with no roots, driven whither so ever the wind takes you, stirring up strife and dissensions in the family of God because you look like you are planted, you look like you are firm in the ground next to the river but your roots are so shallow that it never reaches you.
A weed who wants the things of this world, who laughs at the sin, the carnality on Saturday and tries to fit in with the trees on Sunday.
you can be a weed or the chaff stealing life giving nutrients from the true tree, a weed that chokes the life out of the very church you are in because you are not deeply rooted in the Water of life, you are in the desert trying to look like you are next to the river of Life.
in my yard I have a great big tree been there forever I think it has a root system that is unmatched, but every year the yard across the way sprouts dandelions, you can see them and watch them move across the yards in the spring and then they are gone but that tree stands, tall and true no matter what the wind or rain or snow does. The dandelions spring up and are gone, but that tree is constant.


The ungodly shall not stand in the judgment. The ungodly will kneel in the final judgment, They will cower and grovel when they stand before a pure and righteous God. When they stand in the judgment they will know that what they scorned and scoffed at was  true just and honest. 
It says there will be no sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
The congregation of the righteous. Right here you ought to be praising and thanking God that you are under the blood for Nothing you can do will make you eligible to stand in the congregation of the righteous, it is only through the accepting of the free gift of God, the sacrifice of  Christ on the cross that makes you righteous.

Again, you may be a weed in the church here, but in heaven there will be no sinners, no ungodly life stealing weeds. But only trees, planted next to the waters of life. The ones who feed from the River of life and are firmly planted in the Word.
On that final day when we all stand before God He will know His true trees, and He will know the chaff, and so will we. We will know who was true of heart and who was trying to look like us.
those Who were living the Life, with a heart true. and those who were looking the life with a heart hardened and closed to God.

The ones who delight in the law of the Lord and stand in His Word.
The ones who know His Word is true, who fear God and His wrath, His judgment, these are the ones who will know the full Reward when they hear well done thou good and faithful servant.

as an aside, the first time I heard Jack Hyles say something I disagreed with was Friday. He said on that day I will see  and he listed a lot of names of those who didnt believe in his day and he said I will say nya nya nya I told you so. I disagree, on that day I shall see those who didnt believe and I will weep for they will have no more hope, their unbelief has condemned them to a fire that dies not. We will weep for we could not reach them. And even more so shall we weep for those we did not TRY to reach for fear of being called a fanatic, a weirdo.

Every weed will know the lives they ruined, the ones they stole the nutrients from and caused to die. They will know their end results. And they will cry, and weep and this time it will be real. This time it will matter for here they cannot play games, they can not play church. They will be full of the knowledge that what they did, the games they played had an everlasting consequence.

Last time I stood up here I spoke of introspection. Today I am speaking it again. Are you a weed, chaff? Are you a scoffer, a scorner? One who "feels" that there is a God but surely He wont judge? Surely His Word is not black and white but gray? That there is a God but He can not really cast people into the lake of fire?

God will not condemn a soul. They will do it to themselves by their lack of belief, their lack of awareness and their rejection of His Son.
Look inside and be sure that you are a tree. Look inside and be aware of your standing with Him. For nothing else matters.

Today is the day of Salvation. If you are just playing church, now is the time to get serious. Now is the time to surrender. Now is the time to Fear God and His Wrath for it is coming. Be ready or be cast off.
