Gen 19:31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
Gen 19:32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
These 2 young ladies knew Sodom and Gomorrah, they knew the ways thereof, they knew the people, and all the plains around them.
But that’s all they knew. They did not know of a greater world, they only knew what they personally could attest too.
Therefore they thought all men were dead, that there was no one else left on the face of the earth. They, upon considering this in their limited understanding, they decided that too have kids and repopulate the earth they needed to take drastic measures. They got their dad drunk and took advantage of him to do what should never have been done.
They were short sighted, they were morally bankrupt, and they were a product of the world they grew up in.
They knew only Sodom and the morals of Sodom, the ways of Sodom, that’s what they knew, that’s what they fell back on in times of stress and trial.
Shortly before this they heard their father offer them up to the men of Sodom for the men to use them as they pleased rather than the two angels that came to bring them out of the town.
This is what they knew, this is how they were raised. This was the example set before them.
In 2 Peter Lot is called a just man
2Pe_2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:How could Lot be called a just man by the Apostle Peter and have done these things?
How could Lot have daughters who did what they did having a just father?
Lot was vexed by the filthy lifestyles around him, yes it is true. His daughters however were out about the town seeing the "fun" the total disregard for the morality of the just, and the Sin, all pervasive around them.
Even if Lot was vexed by it, did he discuss it with his daughters? Probably not us men are short sighted and squeamish when talking to our daughters about such things.
Who failed whom here? Did Lot fail to talk to to his daughters? Did Lot not give them an example of a just man? After all Lot had daughters that were married and apparently they had families of their own. Did the mother fail the daughters? Did the married sisters fail the daughters?
There is probably plenty of blame to go around. There usually is.
The father probably did not discuss such things with his wife and children, the mother was fond of Sodom we know this because she turned back so she probably didn't speak of it to her children, the married sisters were busy with their own lives and families, and you know they did not get an education that was pure and just from the city around them.
They lived in a perverted city, where the sin was so great that even today Sodom and Gomorrah are synonymous with sin and destruction.
The sin was so great that God destroyed them even after promising not to if they could just find 10 righteous men in all the city.
10, That is all God needed to find.
But he could not.
The pervasiveness of the sin even affected the households of the just.
Not just the outside of the house either, the inside as well.
The pleasures of the people were more sought after than the morals of common decent people.
In fact when Lot tried to finally make a stand the men of the city laughed at him. Not to smear Lot but this is an indication that he had not stood against them before this.
Did he laugh it off before this, turn a blind eye? Did he think what they did in their own homes would not affect him? Did he justify it by saying he wasn't doing it, and he was not accountable for those who lived this way?
Did he say every man must live by his own conscience and fail to stand in private as well as in public?
His children knew what he did, they knew what he said, their views were shaped by his action or his inaction. Inaction is complicit in the sin!
Lot played with sin, toyed with it, tolerated it and even though it wasn't his sin it tore him and his family apart!
Where are we at in America today because men and women of God turned a blind eye?
Because we failed to call it out, name it for what it is.
Where are we in America today because of the inaction of those who have gone before us?
Where are we today because we the God fearing people have let things be done because we did not stand?
We were living a life, providing for our families every comfort they could have but failed to provide for their souls?
We have taken our inheritance and squandered it away to men of corruption and sin.
We have voided our place as leaders and allowed lesser, immoral people to fill our spaces and because of that, we now live in a country run by sin.
It could never happen here we say.
It can not possibly be made legal here.
It does not affect me.
It is their life let them do it as long as they don't do it in my presence.
What they do in the privacy of their bedrooms is their business not mine.
God says where the wicked rule the people suffer.
God says that sin unchecked will leave death.
God says to train up a child, not to let them make their own foolish choices.
Lot was a just man according to Peter, look at the depths that just man fell to, all because he chose to live among the sin and make a nice life for his family.
All because it was a cushy place to live and it would not affect him surely, for he wasn't doing it.
Your life is an example, in word and in deed. Little eyes are watching you. Big eyes are watching you.
Make your stand known before God and man, and then do not deviate from it.
Purpose in your heart that you will not defile yourselves with the king of this world's "fun".
Whether by watching it on tv, by not decrying it in the lives of those around you, Ignoring it is the same as accepting it.
Sin is rampant in America today. In the churches, in the cities, in the country side, everywhere you look there is sin. It is being taught as ok by the schools, it is being promoted by the government.
What are you doing about it?
Are you the light on a hill shining an example for all?
Or are you walking among it, turning a blind eye? Tolerating it because society says you must?
It does affect you directly or indirectly and it will get you.
It will cause you to suffer. It will vex you.
You know that even if you had not set an example before, there is still time.
I am betting we have more than 10 righteous men in the U.S.
There is a time for all things and today is the day for the Christian to take a stand against the sin running rampant in our nation.
Stop laughing at it.
Stop ignoring it.
Stop acting as if it doesn't exist.
Get out of your bubble, see the sex trafficking going on, see the drugs, the alcohol, the violence this sin brings.
See that there is a world lost and dying and they need to know there is a God who loves them.
That there is more to life than living in the same desperate cycle they have been in. That they can get out, they can have life and have it more abundantly.
See what the kids are being taught.
Take a stand against the sin being pushed on them as normal.
There is coming a day when you will have to stand, make your testimony worthwhile before that day. Make your stand before that day so when the time comes people will know where you stand, they won't even have to ask.
When Lot finally made a stand they laughed at him.
Will they laugh or listen to you at that time?
