Mar 2:24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?
Mar 2:25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?
Mar 2:26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?

God made the Sabbath for man. God set aside the day for man to rest from his work,
God knew we needed rest, even when we ourselves are determined not to. Rest is necessary and not just for the body but for the mind as well.
When we get tired we make stupid mistakes, rash decisions, judgement is impaired.
We need rest physically and mentally to keep us sharp and at our best.
The Sabbath was never intended to be a burden but a joy. However, the "religious" elites made it burdensome on the people.
God set it aside and intended it for the health of the people, but along they way it was made another way to control the people for the "leaders" to lord it over.
They took the law and made it an all encompassing thing that was a heavy weight on the people.
One more way they were able to control the masses and keep them bound. After all they were the ones who told the people what the law was.
It was a great scam. They were totally in control and completely against the Will of God.
In 6 days God created the heavens and the earth on the 7th day He rested.
He set aside the 7th day of man that we might worship Him and serve Him. 6 days we had to do what needed to be done.
God was so serious about the Sabbath in the Old Testament that He put a death penalty on it for those who broke it.
This seems harsh at first glance, but think it through and it makes sense.
The first commandment is to love the Lord Thy God with all your heart soul and mind.
God created the Sabbath for man to rest and to worship and serve.
God is a jealous God, He loves us and wants fellowship with you and with me. God wants us to rest and reflect on Him.
God wants our life centered around Him, our thoughts, our actions, centered solely on Him.
He set aside a day for us that would make it easier for us to do this.
Believe it or not left to our own devices we would not make time for this as we are human and live in the moment. We would put other stuff in front of Him, family, shopping, recreation, any number of things we might let creep in and distract us from what we need.
We, left to our own devices tend to ignore God. As most throughout history have done.
God wants you. God wants me. He wants us to put Him first even as He has put us first.
He created the world for us. He died for us. He loved us first and foremost. God is an amazing God for He has done what we could never fathom doing. He loved purely and unconditionally even when He knew it was all going to go haywire and cost Him more than we could ever know.
God gave us the Sabbath for us, For Him.
