Shared vision

King David was a man of faults, a man of victories and a man of failures.

Yet we are told he was a man after God's own heart.
However his decisions and triumphs for God were not always shared by his household.
David Brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, He returned the Holy Seat of God to the City of David, to the capital of Israel.

David was rejoicing in the Spirit of the Lord and in the Greatness of something he had always believed in, every young Jewish boy dreamed of being the one to return it.

Yet David had trouble brewing at home.
Not every one shared his joy and his dream. Not everyone served his God with the same love and enthusiasm.

David was unequally yoked.
There was no shared plan, no shared vision. Where there is no vision the people perish.
That saying is as true for a household as it is for a church or a city or a nation.

David was dancing joyously and vigorously for the Lord. He was a mad man celebrating with the people of Israel the return of one of their greatest treasures.

2Sa 6:18  And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.
2Sa 6:19  And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.
2Sa 6:20  Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!

Michal loved David at one point, She even lied to her father to protect David. Then there was a time apart when she was given to another man by her father while David was on the run.
David never made a writ of divorcement so the second marriage was null and void, never happened.

Then when David ascends the throne he takes her back and she comes along, we do not know how long she was with the other man and his family. Nor do we truly know how she felt about either situation.
What we do know is that she was a king's daughter raised on propriety and proper behavior.
David was a poor man then, the youngest son of a shepherd. Yet she loved him. Did she love him because her father hated him? we do not know.

We do know somewhere along the line she grew to despise David.
David had the joy of God, the best interests of God at heart in this situation and she could care less.
She cared about image, propriety and status.

Two differing view points, two different visions, two different people on different paths.
The cost of this kind of household is huge
Michal's cost was she was never to have a child.

We have this problem in America. Families are fighting, separating over money, God, politics etc.

The family is sacred, a God ordained institution.
Without a firm foundation of God, Faith and talk it will fail.
There must be a shared plan, a shared vision for the family to regain control. There must be one purpose, one plan, Not perfection, there will never be a perfect household but there must be a shared vision, a shared plan, a shared purpose.

King David had a huge victory that was cheapened by his home.
She should have been joyous with him, joyous in the spirit of God as well.
Yet she did not, she killed the joy.

I am not implying that this is just women, the men can also do the joy killing.
The point is there must be a shared vision in a partnership and marriage , as originally intended, is the biggest partnership of all time.

Shared vision  or the family will perish.
