Kind David a man of many faults and a man after God's own heart. had a serious concern..
A concern no one else had ever voiced as far as we know about an issue no one else had considered.
2Sa 7:1 And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest round about from all his enemies;
2Sa 7:2 That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.
David was concerned that he was living higher than God Almighty. David was embarrassed that he lived in a fine house and God lived in curtains..
God had blessed David, given him the throne of Israel, gave him victory over his enemies, and had given him rest.
David then worried that God was not being considered or rightly honored for all that He (God) had done.
But David didn't just think about it, worry at it, David wanted to do something about it. Because of this God blessed him more yet that was not the reason David did this.
He did this to ensure that God Almighty was honored more than him more than man, More than any other as God of the Universe.
There are a couple of points that struck me here.
1. God told Nathan that He never once told anyone to build Him a better house, that God had never concerned Himself with a fine house here on earth for He is God of all and it pleased Him greatly that David concerned himself with God's dwelling. It showed a heart that was oriented towards God.
2. God Himself did not concern Himself with His abode. God never tried to put Himself up in a glorious mansion yet He is God and could have very well demanded this. He could have done it Himself in the blink of an eye. Yet He did not.
Our God, Lord Jehovah, Creator of the universe and all it contains never puts Himself to the forefront.
He came as a carpenter's son born with out a roof over His head. He died a violent death as a criminal would to save the world from it's sin.
He never forces anyone to follow, or glorify Him.
He wants it to be organic out of the heart of man and woman and child.
He wants it to be pure, unforced, and voluntary.
Our God is an awesome God.
He calls people to service, yet He does not force service. He gives a choice.
Yes He does bless for obedience but He does not compel it.
David concerned Himself with God's House here on earth. That pleased God because He did not ask David to do this. It came from the heart for the Love of God.
Giving from a cheerful heart, serving for the joy of serving, putting God first pleases Him.
It is the spirit of the thing that pleases God not the thing itself.
It truly is the thought that counts.
God loves you.
He is pleased when we do purely and honestly because He is God and we want to Honor Him, show our love for Him.
Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Mat 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
