In little league baseball we teach the fundamentals of the game. Soft toss.bunting, footwork, focus, getting the glove down and the body square.
In basketball we teach the fundamentals, dribbling, blocking, squaring up to shoot.
In fact when someone is in a slump we get back to the fundamentals.
It's encouraged as a way to reassess where your problem might be. to cure the yips, or to break out of a funk.
Yet in the church fundamental is a curse word.
You can not be a fundamentalist without people looking at you funny. Thinking you are alt-right or some such nonsense.
Fundamentalism is bad.
In the 1960's through the 1980's there was a surge of fundamentalism sweeping the nation. Getting back to the basics of Christianity. The Bible, the Blood, the Word of God as the final Word on everything.
The doctrines of the Bible came to the forefront. The Holy Word of God was venerated, Christ is the way the truth and the life. Morality was not a line in the sand that moved with the tide but a hard and fast rule based on the Word of God. Preachers stood and preached Christ and Christ alone. They preached on sin, Hell, death both physical and spiritual, repentance, and deliverance.
The mega churches of those times were bible believing hell fire and damnation preaching churches. Those that were on fire, soul winning machines. Those churches had real concern for the people and their walk with God.
Yet somewhere in the 1980's and 1990's we lost our way. We became sensitive and afraid to offend.
We forgot that the Cross of Christ is an offense to the world.
We forgot that they will hate us because they hated Him.
Joh_15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
We started softening our approach to reach more, when in reality we lost more than we gained when we made sin acceptable. a minor inconvenience instead of a deadly soul damning action.
Christ did not come to bring peace to earth, He came that we might have life in Heaven, eternal salvation, to bridge the divide between man and God.
Christ came so we might have life and have it more abundantly.
Not that we might have peace on earth.
Luk 12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
We are in desperate need of the fundamentalists of yesterday. Those that will preach doctrinally sound messages, those that will condemn sin, love the sinner and tell them of how they may be made whole.
We are in desperate need of the Love of Christ, the true Love of Christ. The Love that will tell us our shortcomings, our sins, our faults but Love us in spite of them.
The Love that calls all to Repentance.
We are in desperate need of the fundamentals of Christianity. We are in desperate need of the men who stood and exhibited those fundamentals, preached them, lived them.
No other cure may be found for this world but that medicine that comes from the Doctrine of Christ.
He has the cure.
He is the cure.
