The thief who saw the future

Luk 23:36 And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,
Luk 23:37 And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
Luk 23:38 And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Luk 23:39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
Luk 23:40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
Luk 23:41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
Luk 23:42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
Luk 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Christ was hung between 2 thieves on the cross. He was reviled by one, He was mocked by the crowd, and the soldiers who were commissioned to kill Him, were laughing at Him.

Yet there in the middle of all that was a man. A man who was guilty of the crimes he was being executed for.
This was an eyewitness to the death of Christ.
One who saw Him (Christ) and His actions through out the whole debacle. One who witnessed our Savior behave meekly and accept His Fate. He saw One who did not curse the crowd, yell out defiantly of His innocence, or rant and rave about the un-justness.

He saw the One who didn't belong there.

He saw the personal testimony of the Messiah and through that testimony came to know and understand the true meaning of the Messiah and His coming Kingdom.
He (the thief) didn't see the worldly Kingdom that some of Christ's most ardent followers were thinking of. He saw Christ as He was the Coming King.
The thief saw and realized the truth. Jesus Christ was and is the Son of God.

Through out the ordeal Christ set a standard, an example that turned a hardened criminal to salvation.
That criminal gave to us a demonstration of faith that is greater than just about any other.
That criminal saw God. That malefactor saw the True King.
The dying thief saw the Eternal King, The living God.
