The Spirit is Ready

The spirit is ready but the flesh is truly weak.

Christ said this in the garden talking to Peter. Peter and the other disciples fell asleep while praying and watching. 

For many years I thought Christ was saying this to the disciples in their weakness. 

Yet might I suggest that Christ was referring to Himself, asking for their support in prayer, asking for them to lift HIM up in prayer. 

Yes He reproached Peter, yet at the same time He was longing for their prayers, for their support, for the oneness of purpose with Him. If He needed support, if He needed prayer how much more do we?

Christ's Spirit was ready for this trial He was about to go through, yet His earthly body was just as tired and afraid as ours get! 

His physicality was as weak as ours.

Mark 14:37-38KJV

37And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? 38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. 

Christ was/is God. He came to this earth and took on man's frame, He knows the physical side and the mental and the emotional as well as anyone. He knows the weaknesses of our flesh, the temptations, the hunger, the thirst, all of it.

Truly the flesh is weak.

The spirit is ready.

The spirit cries out don't do that, don't go there, don't watch that, don't say that.

But our flesh is weak. It's only through prayer and fellowship with God that our Spirit can truly be victorious over sin.

We are so frail, fragile. 

Christ knows. His Spirit was ready for the trials, His God side was all set. 

His humanity side knew all too well the pain and suffering coming. 

Christ knew, yet He did it anyway. He

Knew, yet He suffered anyway. His Spirit was Victorious.

We can be victorious too - in His Spirit.

15For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
