God has been on me to read and study Amos. I put it off for 3 weeks and it ate at me. Finally I broke down, then God spoke to me.
It is a telling book, and a damning one.
Amos 5:21-26 KJV
I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies. 22Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. 23Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. 24But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream. 25Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? 26But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.
Then I wrote the following:
I look out... I see cars, houses, people running to and fro. For what? For themselves, for ourselves. We have sacrificed ourselves to our comfort, to our own uses. The modern man has no idol but their own convenience. We have turned aside from God, He is in our minds but not in our hearts. He is in our mouth but not in our purpose.
The modern man has made life it's idol.
Comfort, money, things, our idol.
We have sinned.
We have turned God into an afterthought.
I look in... I see worries about money, job, kids, finances but no worries of the work of God. No true purpose to Him. Just the indwelling of personal corruption.
We have turned the mighty works of God into myths, fables.
We have sinned.
I look out and see "mega-churches" buildings devoid of true devotion to God. They are houses of self affirmation, places of peace be with you without true knowledge or teachings of God. Heart teachings, connections formed with God.
We have sinned.
I look in and see shallow, surface devotions, surface service, surface tithing.
An hour or 2 a week begrudgingly given. I see money handed to God with the thought of how it would really help me If I kept it. I see a heart not in tune with God, but a heart going through motions necessary to salve consciences.
We have sinned and left God out of His House. We have made Him a spectator as we do our will.
I look out and see people, my people, my nation, sin and rationalize it away. Sin and "normalize" it.
They eat drink and are merry, thoughtless of the day to come.
Forgetting that God and God alone knows what tomorrow holds. That He alone is the designer of the future.
We have sinned. We the people of God have brought it into our churches, into our homes. The sin of complacency. The sin of me first. The sin of forgetting God, turning from Him.
We the people of God are paying for that,
God has deafened the ears of those who should hear. He has nullified our voice that has been silent for so long.
The worst part is that we have convinced ourselves that we are serving God. We have convinced ourselves that we are doing all we can. We have lied to ourselves, and we have believed it!
We the people have sinned. We the people have turned. We the church, the body of Christ have lead the way into apostasy!
We have sinned.
We must start with our own hearts, a revival must come from within our hearts before God can work.
We must repent and turn to our first love.
We must get our hearts right and in tune with God, we must hear the voice of our God. Then we must listen to the voice of our God.
And pray it is not too late.
Good news! God may not accept our ceremonies, our sacrifices but He will hear us. He will see us and our remorse, our repentance!
