Last night we saw tons of people dressed up for Halloween, yet come Sunday morning how many will "dress up" for God?
How Many will spend days wondering what they are going to wear, who is going to see them? How many will take pictures and post them to facebook showing the world that they are dressed up?
How many are going to get their kids up make sure they are dressed and prepared to go out and get the accessories ready for them to have a successful time?
I understand Halloween comes once a year and it is an event. Whereas, Sunday is once a week. I do get the difference.
My point is this, we spend hours getting ready for things that are special to us, that are events. Tailgating at a football game, scouring the papers for black Friday sales, etc..
Isn't church, where we go to meet God, an event worthy of preparation, anticipation and exhilaration?
Phillipians 1:20-22 KJV
20According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. 21For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
"Christ shall be magnified in my body." Oh that we all would be that shining example through our life testimony. That our walk, our talk, our actions would be a testimony to those around us. That they would ask us what we are dressed up as/for.
That they would want to follow our example, that they would want what we have. That they would want to be dressed up like us. That they would want to dress up for this special event.
To think that the effort and thought we put into Halloween could be turned into positive energy dressing for God and making our weekly "event" special.
But more often than not when it comes to God and service to Him our convenience, our "fleshly nature" comes first.
More often than not we fail to give Him preeminence and we fail to make Him the center of our lives.
We are perhaps guilty of laxness and sloth. We have not crucified ourselves to Christ, we have crucified Christ to convenience. His work on the cross is negated due to our complacency.
We need to learn that for us to die is gain, to die to our selfish senseless sinfulness. We need to have Him live through us, we need His Holiness in this world in this life.
If we can get back to treating His day as Holy and special, if we can get people to see Christ through us then we can have Hallowed days everyday. We can make a difference and all it takes is for us to do as we should, treat God and His day as special.
It is.
He is.
