There are several times in the bible when God calls and the person called says to the effect "i am listening".
Samuel is called in the middle of the night 3 times, each tine he hears and runs to Eli thinking Eli called him
1Samuel 3:8-11KJV
8And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child. 9Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
Abraham also heard the voice of God.
Genesis 22:1KJV
1And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
Why do we not hear Him? why does He not talk to Us? What would we say if He did call us?
We do not hear because:
A. We are not listening
B. Too much noise in our lives
C. We actively do not want to hear Him.
Why does He not speak to us:
A. Sin
B. We are not asking.
C. His time hasn't yet arrived.
Then comes the tough question. Let's say He called to us, we heard Him what would our answer be?
Will we say here am I?
Will we turn a deaf ear?
Will we just not listen because we have too much going on?
God spoke to Abraham, and Eli. They were both in His service. They were both attuned to Him, once Samuel knew who was calling Him.
When God talks people listen. The question is - What are you doing with what He tells you?
In one ear and out the other?
When you read the Bible do you listen for God's voice and follow His direction?
Do you take what you want and leave the rest?
God's Word is there for a reason, are you listening? When you read it are you taking it to heart?
God is speaking.
Are you listening?
