For instance positive has a plus (+) sign. Now that plus sign means to add to something.
Whereas negative has a minus sign (-), which means to take away from.
It sounds awful simplistic but that is exactly what positive and negative attitudes do. Positive people add to, build up whatever they do. negative people tear down, destroy spirits.
This was addressed several times in the scriptures as God knows the value of a ebullient spirit.
Ephesians 4:31-32King James Version (KJV)
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Now when it says evil speaking I believe it means negative, tear you down type of talk. Words and language that destroy not just the Spirit, but also the enthusiasm, the outreach, the fervor of other people.
There are those who can stop anyone from moving forward or growing in the Spirit simply because they do not know the joy of Christ and refuse to allow others to be happy.
There are also those who do not know kind words, encouragement, or expressions of love. Perhaps they never knew them, or they had a bad example before them, but they too can tear a spirit down.
One of the worst things you could do is to be the one who through negativity keeps someone from God simply because they dont want to be like you.
Sour persimmon eaters can cause more trouble than a whole room full of drunks. The bitter spirit is far more harmful than outright sin because it is not nearly as apparent. Its insidious. Its poison.
Channel your thoughts through the positive, be an uplifter. Even when you are trying to teach or guide someone away from trouble be positive.
Positivity can make a world bright, can change a whole day or outlook for the better. It can change a life for the better.
