Lot: naivete in action

I have been thinking about Lot quite abit here lately. In 2 Peter he is called "just" and "righteous"

2 Peter 2:7King James Version (KJV)

And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

Lot as you will recall was Abraham's nephew. He traveled with Abraham till there was strife amongst the two households. Abraham gave Lot the choice of which direction to go and Lot turned his eyes upon the rich and fertile plains of Sodom.

Now everyone wants to condemn Lot and his actions. I don't see it that way.

In Lot I see a sheltered naive man. One who was never alone or vexed for he had strong support from Abraham.

Perhaps Abraham spoiled him. Perhaps he never worked a day in his life for what he had because of Abraham. Perhaps because he never had to work he was lazy.

I think Lot was not a strong man, that's why he went toward the best fields. I think he was not a worldly man but a young man who thought he knew what was good and best for himself. I think he was a man not leaning on God but wholly on what he can see, taste, feel etc...

I think Lot was unprepared for what he found in Sodom. I think he thought the whole world was made of men like Abraham, just and fair. I believe Lot was naive, looking at the world through rose-colored glasses.

When he got to Sodom and saw the wickedness, The Bible tells us he was vexed in his soul. So it did bother him, but it does not tell us if he did anything about it. Instead he dwelt among the sinners and amid the sin.

That is the problem with Lot. He saw a problem, was troubled by a problem but because of the wealth and the earthly rewards he was making, he chose not to stand against it.

He chose to quell the anguish, the crying out of his conscience and to keep making money.

I think today in this world we have way too many Lots. We have so many doing well, so many making it based on earthly standards.

We have too many who won't stand against sin, who won't condemn wickedness.

We are happy to let the sin go on and not speak out about, which by the way is the same as condoning it. If you are not whooly against the sin then you are for it.

People if we christians don't take/make a stand today, we will ve called Lot. We are going to be judged on our silence.

Don't be naive, don't put the blinders on. Don't let the world and it's riches keep you quiet. Don't be content to dwell amongst the wicked.

Make a stand!9
