Last night I was flipping through the channels and hit on a station I knew would irritate me and sure enough it did.
Guy preaching on TV, Generally I am all for getting the Word of God out in all media facets. However, this particular station features a lot of false teaching. This man was energetic, entertaining, and quite passionate. He was wrong on doctrine and on interpretation. He took a specific example in the Old Testament of a man of God who worked a mighty miracle and tried to make it a "Kingdom Principle".
I do believe that God can still work mighty miracles if we let Him. I believe the Old Testament is the Word of God faithful and True.
I do not believe that God in the Old Testament gave us examples of these mighty miracles for us to duplicate. I do not believe the "Kingdom Principles" as put forth based on this miracle is a good representation. It is a wrong philosophy to think that God wants you rich! That God will not allow sickness, trials or troubles to reach you if you give. Christ was tempted, if it can happen to HIM it will happen to you. If Paul faced trials, troubles, sickness, snakebites, beatings, stonings, shipwrecks and jail, you can bet you as you walk in the Light of God's Will, you too will face problems.
Some "preachers" put forth this prosperity philosophy, they want you to believe that God wants you rich. That the more you give to them the more God will bless you. Well I must say there is someone getting rich off your giving and it won't be you. The way these TV preachers use the money you send is not accounted for. They answer to no one on their finances. That is not scriptural!!!
God does not promise riches. God promises to open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing. This does not mean monetary blessing. No where in scripture can it be brought forth legitimately that God will make you rich if you give.
God wants you to support your church, support His Work, Spread His Word. To live a pure and Holy life in fellowship with Him so that you may be blessed.
God wants your eyes on Him not your money. God wants you to look forward to your reunion with Him whether through the Rapture or through death. He wants your money, your love, your time, your eyes to be on Heaven not on Earth.
The effect of this type of 'preaching' hurts the true Christian Faith as those who give to the point of hurting themselves financially will then lose faith and turn from God when they don't get rich. This type of 'preaching' puts people into a false sense of security. God does not want you to give and give to every crackpot "preacher" He wants you to wisely use your finances to further His work. He wants you to live honorably as a good testimony, honor your debts, pay your bills, witness and support your church and The Spread of God's Word. Give as God lays on your heart through prayer and study not because some tv-vangelist says.
God has never promised us a rose garden, a life free of stress and troubles. I say this alot because there are so many false prophets preaching prosperity philosophy,They claim they are faith healers, or miracle workers, or apostles, or that they have a special word from God or what have you.
Apostle - An apostle is someone who saw Christ here on earth. We have none of them left alive today. Today's apostle title is a man made appellation not a God given title.
Faith Healing - God is the Great Physician and He will heal in accordance with His Will and in answer to our prayers. Not through some shyster who touches your forehead. God is no respecter of persons as a faith healer is. God will heal those He chooses, a faith healer says God will heal everyone.
Prosperity theology - A false teaching that promises health and wealth to all christians if you give to their ministries. Read Foxes Book of martyrs it will refute this. If you are a true Christian walking and serving God in His will you will be attacked by satan and his minions. You will be tried, tested, tempted, persecuted, falsely accused and rejected of men.
The Special Word of God - The Word of God is freely given to all men. There is no new Word of God. There is no new teaching. There is no new revelation We have the Bible and it is all we need.
These tv-vangelists who smile and talk smooth and bless you constantly without ever preaching on Sin, or The shed blood of Christ, or the trials and troubles that will come or the getting right with God through confession,repentance, and prayer: they are false prophets. God loves you. God in His human incarnation The God/Man Jesus Christ Died for YOU. That is the truth. God wants you to fellowship with Him, to walk with Him, to pray to Him, to praise Him, to recognize Him as Almighty God, creator of the Universe, the author and finisher of our faith not an ATM.
There are good ministries on the Air and on TV. They are the ones you need to listen to. They will ask you for gifts to support their ministries as God leads. They do not make promises of riches but they do promise to feed your Spirit.
Always check what anyone is saying, preaching, or teaching against The Word of God. You have the Holy Spirit in you that will tell you through the Word if they are true. If they are not then get out.
