We all know the story of David and Goliath, at least the generalities. However, when you stop and read and meditate on it there are a few other points that are truly worth looking into.
1 Samuel 17:48-50KJV
1 Samuel 17:48-50KJV
48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came, and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
David was a young man, a youth the Bible calls Him. He came from the fields tending the sheep. Now I imagine (not being old enough to have been there despite what my kids think) that being in the fields he spent a lot of time in prayer and fellowship with God. David was the Man after God's own heart. He wasn't out among the people hearing their opinion, asking what they think. He was strong in the Lord and more worried about what God thought. He heard this big big man blaspheming God and it irritated him. God the Creator of the Universe was being put down by this Philistine Goliath. David looked around and all the men of Israel were afraid of this man! The king himself was sitting in fear! David knew this was not right, David knew that in the Might and Power of God he could prevail!
David went to his brothers and they belittled him, he went before the king and the king wanted him to wear armor and sword. They were all seeing things through the eyes of man. David was seeing things through God's perspective.
David shirked the weapons and armament of man and went to his God given strengths. He went to a brook and chose 5 smooth stones. Why 5?
David knew that He was in God's strength but that he himself was human and could make mistakes. He prepared for the eventualities. David knew that in his preparations, game planning, and thinking it through he could be overlooking something. Therefore, he took 5 stones. He was a man who wasn't going to lose. He was going forth in the might and power and Spirit of the Lord. He planned for what he could and prepared for what he couldn't.
David is the epitome of what we should strive to be in this instance. David saw a wrong, saw a world afraid to deal with this wrong and in a righteous anger David strode forth, RAN to the trouble and in the power of God smote the Giant. Now notice here that David didn't just run towards Goliath, David ran towards the Philistine Army! He ran from his reinforcements towards the bad guys. He ran from his comfort zone, from his place of security towards where the trouble and danger were.
So many times I hear that it's tough, that it is too much trouble to speak up. I see people waiting for the battle to come to them. That they are just one person what can they do.

David didn't wait for the battle he ran to it.
We are God's people. Our God is being marginalized, put down in this world today and we are standing by and letting the philistines scare us into a do-nothing state. We are losing a battle to political correctness all because we are too afraid to stand and defend our God. Lost souls are not going to come to us we, as the shepherds, must go and find them. We must take the field of battle and prepare ourselves in the Spirit of God to go out and prevail!
We can not do this in a spirit of fear, or looking at it through man's eyes. We must go out cloaked in the Spirit of God.
God is no respecter of persons the very same Spirit that David had is the very same Spirit that we can go out in. The very same Spirit that Samson had is available to us. God did not leave us to fend for ourselves in these battles we face but we must go out into the fields and meditate and fellowship with Him and prepare ourselves for the battle.
There is no enemy too big for our God. They might be daunting in our eyes but in His eyes the battle is already won. We must Go out in the Might and Power of God.
However, the first part of this is we must go out. We can not sit in the masses of men and shake in our boots, too scared to do anything because the enemy is too big. The Spirit of the Lord is on our side. Once we cover ourselves in His Spirit, Once we know His Will and act on it, there is no stopping us! Our God is the True and Righteous God of this world.
1 Samuel 17:45-47 KJV
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
46 This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
47 And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands.
