Are you listening? Or just talking to God, not allowing Him to answer.

I used to think that as I was going down the road talking to God it was a good thing. Or that maintaining a constant connection (in my mind anyway) was easy and that that was a prayerful attitude.
Then last night I realized it was not. Laying in bed talking to God, I realized I wasn't talking with Him but at Him.  So basically I was throwing out there what He needed to do, what He needed to know, what I wanted of Him, what I needed to say.

Then it came to me that I was so busy voicing my concerns,  getting my voice heard that I was not listening to Him, communing with Him.

How could He get a word in edgewise?

I was so worried He wouldn't hear, wouldn't answer or understand, trying to get all my talking points in before I got to my next destination, appt etc, forgetting Who I was trying to talk to, that I failed to listen to what He has to say.
God will hear me as I go down the road, God will hear me at all times when I am talking to Him. Do I take time to hear Him? Do I give Him the same courtesy of listening?

How many of us would listen to our children if they just walked in and said Dad I need .... and walked out? What if they didn't take time to listen to me? to my opinions, what I wanted, what I needed, what I expected of them? I would call them ungrateful and rightfully so. We would call that type of children spoiled brats. Can God say that of us?

6.to offer devout petition, praise, thanks, etc., to God or to an object ofworship.
7.to enter into spiritual communion with God or an object of worshipthrough prayer.

Prayer is not a wishlist. God is not a genie from a bottle who must grant our wishes.
God wants a fellowship with us -  not a robot(we do not have to do what He commands because of our programming), -  not a servant(we do not have to do what He says out of fear of reprisal), but as a bond servant. A servant who was bought out of slavery but then willingly and freely went into His service.
We were bought out of slavery to sin - paid for with His Blood.
Willingly subjecting ourselves to His Service, to His Will is what He wants. We do what He asks as we know it is for the good of all, We do what He asks because it brings us joy to know we are doing the Master's work.

When we do what He asks, when we follow His Will we know our prayers will be answered as they are in His Will.
Christ tells us in Matthew 6:33KJV
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
If we seek God, pray and then listen to Him. Then we will be in His Will. Then we will know how to ask, and what to ask for and He will answer us.
Our prayer life is wholly dependent on our life, our fellowship, our standing with God. When we are right with God we do not have to worry about whether or not He hears us. He will.

How do we know His Will if we are not listening?
When do we set time for Him to talk to us? for us to sit down, listen and hear His opinion, get His advice? Or are we too busy living our lives and just want to "put a bug" in God's ear?
It is of great consequence to us to make sure we sit at the Master's feet and listen to His Words of wisdom.

When you pray do you seek God's face? Or do you just want Him to accommodate you as you are too busy to sit and listen? I know God is available 24/7/365, but when do you make yourself available to God?

Hearing is far more important than talking. Many times maybe God just wants us to listen to Him. Maybe the God of the universe who came to this earth, suffered, and died for us wants us to sit with Him, to walk with Him and let Him show us great and mighty things we know not.

When you are making time for prayer and asking, make time to Hear and listen. God has things to say for your ears only. Listen to Him, you just might learn something.
