A true father, a loving Dad is one who will set boundaries and structure and then hold you to them. A loving Father is one who will let you fail but believe me we are standing in the background supporting you, rooting for you.
We will let you fail. We will let you fall. That is how you learn. However that does not mean our hearts aren't breaking as we watch wishing to help but knowing your life needs to have scars, bumps, and bruises for you to truly learn and understand.
The dad who coddles and bails their kid out every time is doing them a dis-service.
I have told all my kids 'I will back you and love you but if you do something that backfires or make a mistake that leads to jail or a like situation I will hold your hand as you go through it but go through it you must.'
Our Heavenly Father is the same way. He has rules and boundaries He lays out for us, yet we must be the ones to decide to obey or not. He promises to forgive and forget but we must still face the consequences of our actions.
He does not want you to do as He says by force but to do as He says because you love Him and Trust Him and know He has your best interest at heart.
In the example of the Prodigal son we see the true love of a Father.
Luke 10:20-24KJV
20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
The Father allows his son to go and see the world knowing how it would turn out. How do we know that he knows? Because he is watching and waiting for his son to return. He saw him afar off and ran to him.
Thats a dad!
He knew the results before he let his son go but still he let him go. To learn, to sink or swim. He knew his son so he knew the likely results. Yet he still loved his son and had a feast for a son who returned sadder but wiser, poorer in money but richer in experience, wisdom, and maturity.
That is a Father. A loving dad. A true example.
Your heavenly Father is waiting and watching for you to return. He has provided Us with the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He gave His Son for your sins. Call on the name of the Father in the Name of the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Return to the arms of your father, be welcomed back into the family join the celebration of life. He waits for you. He loves you. He wants the best for you.
