In hearing the news of today I get a little concerned. The true horror comes in reading the comments people leave. We are living in a world that is denying the scriptures and scriptural truth. I am reading a lot of these as people say that scriptures were mistranslated, that the Bible is out of date etc....
There is a case of a Methodist preacher who married his gay son. The Methodist church is against gay marriage and the pastor is being called a martyr. In the comments people are discussing that the Bible is outdated and wrong. That the church needs to get with the '"new" way of doing things. However, some do say that he knew it was not allowed and did it anyway and therefore subject to the rules laid out by his religion.
This pastor married his gay son. I get a dad loving his son. I love my kids to no end. I get it. However, he went against the organization that paid him, that allowed him to do the job he loves in being a pastor. He set out knowing this was not going to be condoned. The question I have is if he was ok with it why did he not tell his superiors? It took a complaint by a church member. It is my guess that he knew it was wrong and did it anyway thereby showing a duplicitous nature and shaming himself. If he thought it was the "right" thing then he should not have hid it.
Then there is the "Duck Dynasty" Guy, Phil Robertson who in an interview voiced an opinion that homosexuality is a sin. He was placed on hiatus from his show. He was castigated by a spokesman from GLAAD.
We are in dire straits here in America where we are being told we must accept these things as normal and not listen to our bible but to the enlightened minds who know better.
So many of these people are leaving comments that are quoting mosaic law from the OT and totally missing the condemnation of sin in the NT.
Christ preached love and acceptance. He also said several times go and sin no more. Christ was judgmental. He was opinionated. He was sinless. He said many times that the world knowledge of that day was corrupt and went against God. However, He also stated many times that love thy neighbor as thyself is the 2nd greatest commandment.
He decried divorce, He decried adultery. He decried the "religious" leaders. He said shake the dust off your feet if a place you visited refused to hear the truth.
In the New Testament with the coming of Christ we are no longer under the age of Law as He provided the sacrifice to end all blood sacrifices. We are in the age of Grace. We can go directly to the Father with our sins and confess and turn away. He loves us unconditionally, He wants us to be in fellowship with Him. We can not do that when we are out of step with him. God created man and woman to complete each other and live in harmony together. To procreate.
Why must we "accept" this as being ok when our God does not? Again we must love the sinner, not the sin. befriending a "gay" or "lesbian" person and trying to win them to Christ is an admirable thing. Condoning them and allowing them to practice their lifestyle actively as a representative of God is not. It is clearly laid out in Romans that this is not acceptable.
Christ has warned us of itching ears. Those folks who want to hear what they want to hear instead of the truth of God's word.
It is amazing that we have people here 2000 years removed from Christ that are presenting themselves as smarter than those who wrote the scriptures. God inspired the writers to lay down His words and thus we have our Written Word of God. We can not change it we can only abide by it. Revelations clearly states that we are not to change one jot or tittle. If we are not to change the dotting of an i or the crossing of a t, then how can we change the teachings written there-in?
The God of MY bible is the same yesterday, today, and always. We are all subject to the same sins as the early church. We are all guilty of sin. We all have the same chance for repentance and salvation. The only difference here is that we have been told to turn a blind eye or we are legalistic, bigoted, or haters.
God turns from me when I sin. God turned from David when he sinned. God turned from Abraham when he sinned. How is the world today better than the patriarchs?
I can guarantee that I will sin again, I am not perfect. But I have the Holy Spirit indwelling me who tells me when I am doing wrong, saying wrong, and basically just being wrong. I try not to grieve Him but I do from time to time.
Sin is sin. No gray. No new age interpretation or acceptance of sin will change that. We need to get our nation back on track with personal accountability. Remember that repentance is calling sin what God says it is SIN, Turning away from it and trying to live as God would have us to. Until we start seeing things through God's prism we will never be able to reclaim this nation.
Revival must come from Us asking God to bring it about. God wants all to come to repentance. Hate the sin, Love the sinner. Exemplify Christ's love without condoning the sin. Bear witness of the Light of the Father which is Christ.
