Politics and our responsibility to them

I am constantly hearing of this mythical "separation of church and state" in our Constitution. But after having read the constitution of the United States of America I can not find it. I do find that the government is of the people, by the people and for the people. The majority of people in this country still identify themselves as Christian despite the government wanting to say it is not so.

Our country was founded on freedom OF religion not from it. We are founded on the right to worship as we see fit. Every man and woman in this country has the right to speak their mind, voice their opinion, and to so discuss it with their friends and neighbors. Yet at the same time the government is telling our preachers they can not voice their opinion on whom to vote for from the pulpit. What have we become?

Matthew 22:15-21KJV
15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.
20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

Even Jesus was subjected to this conundrum but He of course had the right answer. As Children of God we will obey God's law, God's law puts us in subjection to the government that has been set over us. However, as a good steward we are to watch that government and make sure it is not in conflict with God's law. We should always defer to the law of God. If at any time my earthly government asks me to disobey or go against the Holy Scriptures, The Word of God then I must refuse.

We are to be an example to our fellow man, we are to be the light of the world. We can not do that by keeping our mouths shut. We can not do that by refusing to get involved in this discussion of politics, We must take a stand.

Matthew 7:1-2

King James Version (KJV)
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

This quote is thrown at us all the time. However, most people always forget the qualifying verse that follows. We are to judge but not harshly or quickly. For whatever rule we judge by, whatever manner we judge with will then be used against us. We are to be loving and forgiving, BUT  we are to judge wrong as wrong, sin as sin. We are to take a stand for our beliefs.

We need to understand that we are not here to live by the world's standard but to promote God's Will, Love and Righteousness. We are to stand and deliver. We have given in to satan telling us we can't offend, we can't voice our opinion, or we can't make a difference. We know this world is corrupt. It was corrupt in Christ's day. Yet he took a stand. He railed against the hypocrisy of the Pharisee's and Sadducee's. He railed against the corruption in the temple. He constantly told people to watch out for the liars and hypocrites. Yet we have taken a tone of silent suffering preferring to be quiet martyrs rather than men of conviction.

We have an obligation to stand and make sure we are not failing our God by our lack of involvement. Yes this world will get worse and worse as it turns from God. Yes there will come a great falling away in the end days. BUT that does not mean we silently let it happen!! It means that we must fight even more to maintain what little bit of Light we can shed on this lost and dying world.

We may not be able to keep this nation in line with what it was, but we can pray and work to keep God's blessing on us. Remember God was willing to save Sodom and Gomorrah based on Abraham's intervention. God was willing to save Nineveh, He relented several times from destroying Israel when  Moses prayed and asked for respite.

God can turn this nation around if we will only pray and take a stand and show the way to our fellow citizens. But we can not do that by staying out of politics or by not letting our senators and representatives know how we feel.

The power of the voice, the vote, and the hour of prayer can still be felt in this country.
