He read this verse
Romans 12:2 | Read whole chapter | See verse in context
He put forth this thought that God has a perfect will for us. We sin, fall short, and the we get to the Good, but we sin and fall short and we must be in God's acceptable will. It took me the longest time to realize that the verse did not mean this but the validity of the thought is still there.
God has a will and a plan for our lives. He knows what is best for us but we as the stubborn know-it-all children think we know what's best. He has a path laid out for us if we will but learn to follow it. It is when we step aside from what He wants and decide that we know best that we get into trouble. So of course once we get off track we can no longer be in that perfect will He has but must adjust, now God is all-knowing so He is well aware of the forks in our road and which fork we will decide to take.
God did not make us automatons, robots. He made us free-thinking self-willed creatures in His image. It is our choices that make us who and what we are. Those choices put us on our path, we can ask Him why but in reality He is standing back watching us to see what happens when he removes the training wheels. It is completely and totally up to us whether we sink or swim if you can pardon the mixed metaphors there.
So once we make our choice due to impatience or lack of faith or what have you, we must then live with the consequences of these choices. God will forgive us our sin, but that does not remove the end results of those sins.
This then results in us having to repent ask forgiveness and then to look for God's will once again. Once we sin we may remove ourselves from certain facets of the opportunities or blessings He had in store for us. That is where we pay the price and can not fully achieve all that He had in store for us.
So once we get back on track and back to playing by God's playbook again, then we have to find what is the good will of God as we have forfeited the perfect will. Then a little later down the line we may have the same problem: we get bullheaded and forget to lean on Him and the cycle starts all over.
Then we have to find the acceptable will of God. God of course will be there to pick us up and brush us off time and time again. The biggest problem here is our testimony and the dent it puts on our effectiveness.
Remember I said God is all-knowing so He knows ahead of time what we will do and where we will end up when we finally surrender to Him. In this instance I am not alluding to the surrender in salvation, that must be done before anything else, but to the surrender we must do when we realize that He does know best and we are totally reliant on Him and our happiness and future are totally reliant on Him.
So if we have made ourselves less able to serve Him that was our choice. We did what we did and now we must move on and be all that He can make us to be. I will say this -- There is no happiness or fulfillment for the true child of God who is out of His will: Money, fame, possessions, nothing. God's Will is what we must find despite our circumstances.
Wherever you are whatever you have done does not matter. What does matter is that you surrender to Him to allow Him to work through you and to be the instrument He needs. Once you realize that there is no one or nothing that God can not use then you are on the right path, Do not let Satan or people tell you that you are too messed up or did too much wrong. God does not remember your past once you confess it and it is washed in the blood. You do have to pay the price of the sins but clear your conscience and trust in God. People will forgive once God shines through. It may not be easy or quick but it will be worth it staying the course.
Find that Good perfect and acceptable will of God for your life, and find the peace that passeth all understanding: The Will of God.
