1. We need a message to proclaim:
That Christ is Lord. He came to this earth from heaven where He was from the beginning. He is God. He came in the same body we have, He shared the same ills, ups and downs we have, and He knows what it is like living in the flesh.
He died on an old wooden cross, suffered, shed His blood for us, was buried, and rose again on the 3rd day.
He now Stands at the right hand of Lord God Jehovah making intercession for His people with God.
2. We need a mouth to proclaim:
A preacher by definition is -
preach·er
[pree-cher] Show IPA
noun
B.
3. We need a market to proclaim to:
John 4:35-36KJV
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
We have a market - a bus as you ride, a plane, a tract handed out in the supermarket, or just a simple word ,in passing, to a neighbor of God's goodness. Not every proclaiming has to be in a pulpit or 2 hrs long. Perhaps the simplest way to proclaim Christ is through your daily walk and the example we show through our life to others.
There you go in the simplest terms - anyone who proclaims the message of Christ is a preacher already. Perhaps the biggest drawback to the full understanding of this is the fact that we have saddled everyone with the idea that you must go to college to study for 6 or 7 yrs.
Well it is good to study, it is good to learn, and it is a worthwhile endeavor. We must grow in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord. BUT where does it say that I have to go to college to proclaim the Gospel? Now do not get me wrong I am going through college now, trying to deepen my understanding of the scriptures and what it takes to run a ministry. That is altogether different from preaching the Gospel.
We have far too many people nowadays who feel it is necessary to run out a 5 point sermon with outlines and power point presentations. When all you really need is a testimony a Bible and the Word of God. John the Baptist came preaching and Baptizing setting the table for Christ who came to this world. Peter was a lowly fisherman, he learned from Christ. He walked and talked daily with Him. Then on the Day of Pentecost this unlearned fisherman went out and preached. 5000 were converted that day.
The following is in the Wikipedia biography of Billy Sunday:
Sunday never attended seminary and made no pretense of being a theologian or an intellectual, but he had a thorough knowledge of the Bible, and he was well read on religious and social issues of his day. His surviving Winona Lake library of six hundred books gives evidence of heavy use, including underscoring and reader's notes in his characteristic all-caps printing. Some of Sunday's books were even those of religious opponents.
Now comes the question == What does it take to be a preacher?
A willingness. Nothing more than availability. Bible college is a good thing for those intending to serve, it is always good to add depth and polish to your knowledge. Do not confuse the Pastor with the preaching of the Gospel. Proclaiming the Word of God can be done by anyone who has the message of Christ and the Holy Spirit guiding and leading them. Find A good Christ centered church, with a stalwart man of God. Then learn from them, practice your daily walk, Talk to other Christians with the same mindset, pray, study and start proclaiming the Word of God to a lost and dying world.
