Deck that leads into the church. Then the following Saturday we had a rebuilding work day to re-create the entrance. As I was working it occurred to me that I am much more enthusiastic as a wrecking crew rather than the art of construction. Of course this then gave me pause to reflect that this is true in our dealings with others.
Acts 13:15
Acts 13:15
And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
Many times we forget the power of the positive word. We fail to say thank you, smile, or uplift. Even in the simplest way this is a powerful tool. We have the opportunity to impact our little corner of the world with a HI. With a gesture, a smile.
In our speech we should be positive and uplifting. In our actions we can provide a moment a smile. Open a door for someone, smile at them with a warm sincere smile for no reason other than to be a blessing. Our very demeanor should show this to a dark world. We are to be the moon reflecting the Glory of God to a dark world who bears a heavy burden with no hope.
Proverbs 12:18
There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
The tongue is mentioned prominently in the old and new testament as an instrument. Inanimate objects are not inherently evil. A gun can kill and/or provide food to sustain life. Hands can punch and/or they can apply healing. A knife can cut and slash or it can be a tool of use. It's all in how you use it.
We have a dearth of exhortation in this world today. We are so wrapped up in us and what we want, what we are doing, or what we are not doing we fail to see the impact we can have, both negative and positive. One word can destroy a person's day or can change their dark to light.
1 Peter 3:9-11
King James Version (KJV)
9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
Peter gives good advice as to living healthy and wise. Refrain the tongue. Use it as an instrument of good. Using the tongue as an instrument of good people will want to have you around and will be more inclined to be a blessing in return.
This also goes to our prayers, use the tongue to praise our God and thank Him and the day will be brighter.
Make it a habit to say good constructive things. Remember how your mother always said " if u cant say anything nice then don't say anything at all?" Apply this rule to your conversation.
I understand not all people are perfect, as all situations are not optimal, BUT we have a GOD who is greater than the people and the situation.
Stop seeing the negative. Pay it forward and be a blessing. A smile is contagious but YOU may have to start the spread of the smile virus.
