He restrained them not

1Sa 3:11  And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

1Sa 3:12  In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

1Sa 3:13  For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

Every now and then it is good to remind ourselves that God is Love, but He is also a jealous God.

Phinehas and Hophni were esteemed above the Lord by the High Priest, their father, Eli. He restrained not his sons but allowed them to do whatever they saw fit.

They stole from God in the Sacrifice, they stole from the people, they lay with the women and they made the people of God despise the Worship of God.

They did not want to go to church because of the people running the church who had no idea who God was.

These 2 men were called Vile by God Himself and He wanted them dead.

This is truly a warning to modern man, for we have put our children before God in our lives. We have not restrained them thus we have generations more perverse than the one before.

God deafened the ears of Phinehas and Hophni  that they did not/ could not hear the correction of their father, for God wanted them dead.

A cautionary tale to be sure for parents of all ages. A cautionary tale to those "swerving" God. A cautionary tale to those who believe God is just love and joy.

Phinehas and Hophni died for their vileness, and Eli died because he restrained them not.
