Do not let God be ashamed

 Heb 11:16  But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. 

In Hebrews in what we call the Hall of Faith there is a listing of Abel, Noah, Enoch, Sarah and Abraham. the final part of the verse got me.

He was not ashamed to be called their God.

I really wish all Christians would see that verse, and read it and contemplate it. Yes just as you can be ashamed at your childrens actions, so to can God be ashamed to be your God, Our God.

All those that claim God will love them no matter what, well herein is a problem for you.

Yet I want to ask another question, do you really want to disappoint God to the point that He is ashamed to be your God?

If your kids disappoint you, if they fall short of their potential, make a stupid mistake and go to prison, are you not ashamed and embarrassed for you raised them better? I know if it was one of mine I would be there for them, standing next to them as they go through it, but I would not be happy with them.

This verse and the next one tells us God is not always happy with you. God is not always saying it's ok,.

Sometime God says, I am disappointed. Sometimes God is embarrassed to be your God, My God. Sometimes God is downright mad at you.

2Sa 12:14  Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die. 

David sinned and caused the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme David's God. David embarrassed his God, and God was not happy.

If David the man after God's own heart embarrassed God how much more shall you or I do?

It is opinion here, I think the people of God, the true Christians get back to reverencing God. He is not a God to be overly familiar with. He is The God who commands respect, deserves fealty, requires obedience and asks for you to be Holy as He is Holy.

I think the people of God need to get back to respecting His Book, His House, His Blessings and His Commandments.

If we would not embarrass Him we must try to emulate Him. If we would not give the enemies of God a chance to blaspheme then we must worry about our sin, our reputation and our testimonies.

It is time we seek His face not just His blessing.
