Exo 20:18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
Exo 20:19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
Exo 20:20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
The people of Israel, oh how many times we have wrote of them, how many times we have looked at them in disgust.
They have the very God of the Universe speak to them and what do they do? They run and hide, they plead with Moses that he be the go between. They are so afraid of the God who led them out of captivity, they are so in fear of the One who gave them dry ground to cross a sea. They were such a simple minded people.
They had this very God speak to them, He gives them the Law and He is finally fellowshipping with His Chosen, and they want a man, a creature, not the Creator, to speak to them, to be their lead.
The Israelites wanted man to rule over them here, and again when they asked Samuel for a king to govern them instead of God Himself being their God and King. Their very first king was exactly the man they deserved. Saul, the tall, good looking, insecure, coward was the one they got, and he was what they deserved.
Are we any different today?
We have the very Word of God that speaks to us, we have the very Spirit of God indwelling us, and what do we do with it? We turn it off and look to the men who rule over us. We have turned off the voice of God and ran afar off so that we do not have to hear that Holy Voice, the Very God of the Universe.
This nation ,as the Israelites, has turned from God, we have refused to hear the thunderings, we have asked man to stand in the place of God, and speak to us for Him.
This has led to us listening to man and following his law instead of the law of God. We no longer want to hear God, or use His Word to validate what man claims God has said to us. No, we shut up our ears, we turn our eyes away from the evil around us, and we just keep going on. We have stopped our ears so we no longer hear God, His people have turned from Him and His Word.
How often do you hear people call themselves God's children but refuse to listen to Him or His Word? If we are truly His sheep then we must know His voice.
How can we know His voice if we never open His Word or seek His Face?
It seems to be a catch-22 doesn't it? We say we are His children yet we could not tell you what His voice sounds like.
There are so many who speak so many different "truths" and they claim it is His Truth. Yet how can it be His Truth? He is God, He never wavers, He is not vague, and He does not Condone sin. So how can it be His truth if it goes against His Word?
The Very God of the Universe wants to speak with us, but we have placed men above God and we listen to them. Then when everything goes bad we want to ask God why.
God is speaking, but we are not listening, that is why. We no longer venerate His Word, we place more regard upon the man than upon the God the man is supposed to represent.
We have taken His Word and we have shut it up, we have turned it around to what the people want to hear. We have perverted His Word, we have watered it down, and now we bear the fruit of those actions.
There is no Truth but His Truth, there is no Word but His Word.
Until we get back to God's Word, God's Truth (which is the ONLY Truth) we will never be who we should be as a people.
