There are so many facets of Christ and I want to try and go through all of them to show the full Man/God.
So many fail to see His personality, they just want to see what they want to see. Jesus was a man, full through. He was a carpenter, He was strong and well versed in the family business. You ask How do I know this? Because He is God, therefore He was an obedient son, doing what was required to honor His earthly family while under their roof. God asks that we obey mom and dad, He asks that we honor our mother and father. how could He do any less here?
He was full of love for the people, He hated sin, He could not abide those who were all about the ceremonies and their power through "religion" and cared not for the heart of man towards God. He wanted people to have a right relationship with God in their hearts, and minds. He was Pure and Just and wanted all to come to God the Father and know Him.
Mar 3:7 But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea,
Mar 3:8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him.
Mar 3:9 And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.
Mar 3:10 For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues.
Mar 3:11 And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.
Mar 3:12 And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.
Jesus was out among the people, He and His disciple had to take to the sea to get some room from the people who surrounded Him, wanted to be seen and heard by Him, who wanted to be healed, loved and just near Him.
He is near the sea of Galilee near Caperneum and people from Judea and from Galilee followed after Him. Judea was quite a ways off from here and people were flocking to Him (bear in mind many of them had to walk and travel for days to get to Him), Jesus the Great Physician that they might be healed. They heard what He did, how He healed, and wanted to be made whole by this man who could do so many things.
Once again He is out and about doing for the people, The ones who recognized their need and the One who could fill that need, cleanse the disease, cast out the spirits, and make their life better.
They thronged after Him, they could not get enough of Him. Even the unclean spirits knew Him and acknowledged He was the Son of God. He charged the spirits that they not make Him known, for it was not yet His time.
Even today, when people encounter Jesus they find peace, rest, cleansing that only the Son of God can bring.
We do not have the throngs seeking after Him, throngs of people so great that they might overwhelm. I ask myself why, this Man, The very Son of God, doesn't have everyone chasing after Him today. Why there isn't more of a major response to Him and His Words.
The only answer I can come up with is that we are so far removed from His time that we have become detached from the personal nature of the Gospels. They were wrote that you might know Jesus, The Christ, The Son of God, God Incarnate. Christ is alive in the Scriptures and we have gotten so far away from preaching the Christ, The Savior, The Sacrifice, The Great Physician, The Master of the Storm, The Servant, The Savior that no one truly knows Him, in fact many right here in America do not even know of Him.
Mar 3:20 And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.
Mar 3:21 And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.
Jesus had withdrawn to a mountain and called the Twelve and gave them power to heal and cast out demons, and to send them forth to preach the Kingdom of Heaven.
For some time, to further His mission from God, He needed alone time with His disciples, He called them, empowered them and got them ready to go forth and then the crowds found Him again.
Jesus and His disciples were so pressed by the people that there was no rest and no time to eat. Christ cared for the people to the point that His very needs were often set aside. He had neglected Himself so much that His "friends" tried to go out and pull Him out that He might have food and rest. They were concerned for His physical well being even though He Himself was not.
Now I had to consult some commentaries here because I thought the disciples were His friends but it seems that this refers to His earthly relations, who were so concerned about His well being, unable to eat or sleep because of the needs of His people. They were going to make Him rest and eat, they loved Him and were worried about Him, but still at this point did not realize the full extent of Who and What He is. They cared and worried and tried ,out of love, to get Him to stop His work, to take a respite.
How many today are at this point that others are concerned for their health because they have put the people first? That the needs of the people so overwhelmed someone that they forgot to eat and sleep to attend to the people's needs, the people's cares and the Will of the Father who sent them? How often do we today forgo our own comfort our own meals, our own convenience that we have people trying to make us rest and eat for fear of our health? He is God, He is man and He cared more for the people than for His own well being.
Now comes the negative side of this, He had healed so many, cast out demons, taught, and ministered so much that He was tired, hungry and exhausted. His family and friends were worried about His health while others were bringing it up from another viewpoint.
"For they said He is beside Himself". His family heard this from the "religious" who thought that He Himself had a demon, a devil that was pushing Him to do all this.
He is out among the people doing God's work and the "religious" crowd are now saying He is of satan.
Why? Because He didn't do it their way, He didn't go through the proper channels, He didn't seek their permission or learn their ways, for this He must not be of God, right? After all we know God can only work through the established channels, The "accepted" way of doing things. The "Proper" way.
He went to the people and did not make them come to Him, did not require them to go through some nonsense ceremony, He went to them and accepted them as they are. He loved them, He accepted them and allowed His love and His power to change them. He did not require them to go through rituals to get to Him, He was there all day everyday and they came to Him, He taught love, mercy, grace, judgment, to sin no more, that God is a God after the heart of man, not the rituals and ceremonies.
Jesus the great Physician who healed mind, body and soul. He gave hope to the hopeless, He gave life to the dead, He gave acceptance to the unacceptable. He loved, He cared, He was accessible. He was The Teacher.
He was so committed that His family worried for His health. He had enemies who cast aspersions on Him, tried to ruin Him by painting Him as an agent of the devil. He cared not about the criticism of those, for the people needed Him.
The Great Physician cared to this point, How can we care any less? We can not heal, or forgive sin as He did, but we can point to the One who can. He pointed to the Father, He was doing the Will of the Father. We too should be doing the Will of the Father and pointing the way to Christ.
