Lest we forget

Perhaps the greatest shame to the Christians of today is the fact that we have forgotten the mighty works of God.
We take the miracles we have witnessed and we forget, or we reclassify them as coincidence. We see the power of God and then a short while later we forget.
Why do we forget? why do we mis-remember?
Because we do not talk of it. We do not tell of Him. We do not praise Him.
I do not mean in the moment. we praise in the moment. We are thankful in that moment, but what about in the days and weeks thereafter?

Way back before tv and the internet knowledge and history was passed down by verbal communication. People had to remember and pass it down from person to person. Father told son, mother told daughter.
No more.
we have forgotten the mighty works of God because we do not talk about them.
You know you can work your way out of a funk by praising Him. You can get out of depression by thanking Him for your blessings. You can get out of your fear of talking to people by talking of Him daily, weekly, to anyone and everyone. You can lift your mood by singing the hymns.
Yet we do not because we have forgotten.

Elijah called down fire from heaven and then forgot, ran from Jezebel's wrath.
John the Baptist saw the Spirit of the Lord descend onto Christ and heard God say this is my Beloved Son. He got tossed into prison and forgot. Nebuchadnezzar saw Daniel saved from the mouths of the lions, saw the three Hebrew men tossed into the fire and walk out of that furnace unharmed and forgot.
The disciples saw Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead. but when He died on the cross they forgot.
Peter saw Jesus transfigured on the mount, saw Him in all His Heavenly glory, but forgot.

What have you seen but forgotten?
What have you seen and then after awhile put it down to convenience, coincidence?
What have you seen and then forgot?

You have forgot the joy of your salvation? The power of God that moved you to salvation? The fear and the wonder just after salvation? That is perhaps the mightiest work of all. That God so loved you and died for you.
How can you forget that?
How can you forget the joy that erupted in your heart when you gave your life to Him?
How did you forget that God in all His Glory came to you, Sought after you, called you, Saved you from death and Hell???
Well maybe you didn't forget, maybe it just clouded over the years, tell someone of that moment of that joy and return to that feeling that moment.
Return to that joy!

I can still remember at 8 yrs of age going forward around that row of metal chairs in Union Missouri, I don't remember the church's name, I don't remember the pastor's name It was 48 years ago. I do remember the event, the tear running from my eye as I walked back to my seat the smile on my face and my mothers face as I returned to sit.
.I also remember being baptized a week or two later, the same day as my mother in the Meramec river in Union, I probably am wrong on the name and the spelling but I was there I remember the day!

We forget and it clouds over the days weeks and years after.
When we need to remember appointments what do we do? We write them down. In olden times we used to write everyone's phone number down. We had books dedicated to that,
We would memorize things, we would tell someone to make sure we remembered, put a string on your finger so you would remember every time you look at it.

Why don't you start doing that with God and His Works?
Why not daily talk of your salvation and the joy therein?
Recount the miracles and blessings of God daily.
Remember Him and His Goodness and tell someone of the things He has done.

Joh 4:39  And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

She testified and many of that city believed! She was a sinner, unworthy but she talked of Jesus and they believed. John wrote it down for us that we might know and remember.

Two blind men
Mat 9:30  And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.
Mat 9:31  But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.

The man of the Gadarenes
Luk 8:38  Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
Luk 8:39  Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.

These people did not have a college education. They did not have a pastorate. They did not have A deep and meaningful Christian life of 30 or 40 years.

They had a personal experience, and they turned cities to God. They witnessed and testified, and then John the Apostle that Jesus loved he wrote this down that we might know and remember.

Talk of Jesus to someone, anyone. Tell them the old old story of Jesus and His love.
Tell them of the God who died for you.
Tell them of the God who died for them.
Tell them of the God who changed your heart and your life.
Tell them of the miracles you have.
The blessings you have.

Lest we forget and it becomes as dust in our memory. Write it down, pass it on.
Tell someone, anyone and pass it on.
