John 3:16 - 17
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life
For God sent not His son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved
So many times we forget the Gospel. We get into preaching revival, tithing, backsliding, service, growth etc but many times we forget that in order to get people saved we must tell them why they need it, what they need, and how to then proceed.
Billy Sunday preached a hard Gospel. An unrelenting Gospel. A gospel that showed man his sins and the need for repentance. He preached of God and God's judgement to come. He told people they were sinners going to hell, he identified their sin and told them of the wages of sin and the ultimate cost. He held great revivals that the effects of still linger today from almost 100 years ago.
That is what they need to hear, that they are lost, dying, going to hell if they do not come to Christ. They already know for the most part that their sins are slowly destroying them, they know it is self destructive behavior but they do not know anything else.
They know they have a need but they don't know what will fill that need.
Jesus is the filler of souls. The meeter of needs.
Deep down they know they are inadequate, deep down they are unhappy, why do you think pills are so widely used now? Drinking is at an all time high. The suicide rate is astronomically high.
They are trying to fill a need, they are trying to find happiness in the only way they know.
It ain't in a bottle of booze or pills.
It ain't in hanging out with the guys or gals.
It ain't in relationships.
It ain't in any of the pursuits that they have turned their face towards.
It is in Christ. God created us, He knows our DNA backwards, forwards, inside and out.
Psalms 139:14
I will praise Thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
That deep longing when no one is around, that cry in the middle of the night from your soul, that is your need for the Creator, the God of the Universe who made you and wants you to know Him and the Joy He has for you.
The hole in your heart that nothing can fill, He has the answer for.
The empty place in your life, He is the Friend that you are looking for.
The longing for something more, That's Him calling you.
The unsatisfied feeling that all is hopeless, empty, That is true; all is hopeless without Christ for He is the hope of all who believe.
We, like sheep, have gone astray. Christ came to seek and to save that which was lost.
He came that YOU might have life and have it more abundantly.
Christ loved you even though you had no idea who He was.
Christ died for you even though you were not born yet.
Christ can give you the peace and joy you so desperately seek.
Joh 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Satan is a thief. He tries to steal your joy, your fellowship, your purpose.
Christ wants to restore you to your rightful place, which is fellowship with God. You are greater than the things of this world, for you are a child of the King and He waits for you to come to Him and recognize Him. He calls you from wherever you are to Him.
There is nothing too high, too wide, too deep, to get in the way of His finding you if you but call upon His name.
He calls you from the life of ruin you are living.
I personally have seen too many lives ruined by alcohol and violence, I have seen the ravages of drug use.
There is more for you than that. There is greater peace and joy in Christ than you can find in any other person, place, or substance.
You can drink yourself into oblivion but it will never settle the memories, the fears, the need, the insecurities or the emptiness.
You can go from marijuana, to meth, to heroine, cocaine or what ever drug is next and you will not fill the emptiness.
You can sleep with any and all the people you meet and yet there is no fulfillment outside of the moment in that.
Christ loves you, Christ died for you. Christ can SAVE.
He can heal, He can fill the empty holes in your heart, satisfy the longings, He can make you a whole person. He can give you purpose and meaning. He can ease the pain of loss, He can lift the insecurities.
He paid it all for you on the cross that you might have Life.
He died for you, He came to this earth that All through Him might come to repentance.
It sounds corny yet it is true, there is no name that I can say out loud that brings the joy of Jesus' name. In times of trial and stress I can call His name and the Spirit bolsters me, comforts me.
That is what He wants to do for you.
He wants you to come to Him. To know Him. To leave all your cares and problems there at His feet.
He can give forgiveness.
He can give Love you've never known.
While Christ was here on earth He did not go to the rich or famous.
He went to the sick, the penniless, the diseased, the demon possessed; those who had a need for Him.
He came for those that had no other hope on this earth for they truly needed Him, and they knew they needed something.
Even today He is here for the lowest of the low, the smallest of the small, the biggest of the big, the richest of the rich, the most desperate, the one who has no other way, no other friend or family.
He is here for those who need something but do not know what they need.
The hardest part for us is admitting that we can not do it on our own. That we might need help.
We humans have so much pride but thank God He doesn't give up after one phone call, or one knock at the door.
He stands at the door and knocks. I do not know about you but if I am at a door knocking, I am looking in windows to see if anyone is in there, I am knocking loud and waiting a minute then knocking again, asking the neighbors if they might know when the occupant will return.
I believe God is doing the same for you. He is persistent. He is long suffering.
Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him and he with Me.
