When was the last time you wrestled with God? When was the last time you got down on your knees crying and begging God for something or some one and you stayed there and held on to Him until He blessed you?
Jacob, the deceiver, the con man, he did it. He wrestled with God all night long and didn't let go until God blessed him.
Gen 32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
Gen 32:25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
Gen 32:26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
Jacob was going to meet his brother Esau, the one he tricked. The one whose birthright he was given. Now Esau had sold Jacob his birthright for some food, so he didn't truly steal it, Esau sold something very valuable for food because he was hungry and wanted food.
yet when the time came for the birthright to be granted to the oldest son Jacob dressed as Esau and deceived his Father Isaac so he could get the birthright instead of standing tall and bringing forth his claim.
Jacob deceived Isaac, took Esau's birthright and blessing.
Now Jacob was going to meet Esau and was afraid that his brother was going to kill him and all his family, so he sent presents before him to Esau, and prayed all night alone.
He got together with God alone and would not let go until God blessed him. Then God blessed him, and resolved his situation. God Blessed him because he would not let go.
When was the last time you wrestled with God that He might bless you, or answer your prayer? when was the last time you would not let go?
When was the last time you let God be God?
Elijah stood against 400 prophets of baal and an evil king and queen, in the midst of a famine he stood tall in front of the nation.
1Ki 18:24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
When was the last time you stood out of the way and prayed and let God be God?
Elijah was serving in the midst of a very wicked time. When Jezebel was queen and Ahab was king and the nation of Israel was going the wrong way. Elijah stood and let God be God.
He got out of the way, He prayed and let God be God.
When was the last time that you did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, and turned neither to the right or the left but stayed true and constant on His path?
Josiah was 8 years old when he took the throne. His father was Amon and his grandfather was Manasseh, wicked men who led Israel after the idols and not the true God.
Josiah stood against the examples laid before him and led his nation back to the true God. He cast down the altars, he led the nation in the right path, and he followed God.
2Ki 22:1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.
2Ki 22:2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
When was the last time you wrestled with God until you got your blessing?
When was the last time you let God be God?
When was the last time you walked God's path and never turned to the left or the right?
The same God that did these things for these men is your God. My God.
How can we let Him not give us the same results that He gave to these men?
Were they any more deserving than us?
Were they more holy than us?
Were they more perfect than us?
No.
How can we not expect the same of Him?
Is He any less God today than He was then?
Has His power eroded over time?
Has He grown old and feeble?
If then answer to those questions is no then the problem is with us and not with Him.
We don't have wholesale revival because we choose not to.
We don't have mighty works of God because we stand in the way.
We have no fires of the Spirit because we have quenched them.
When was the last time you prayed till you got your blessing?
When was the last time you let God be God?
When was the last time you strode a path for Him and turned neither right nor left till the thing was done?
