Do you remember your first love?
Do you remember the spark of your girlfriend/Boyfriend?
The smile they brought you, the laugh, the comfort the joy and fulfillment of being together?
Do you remember what attracted them to you? The looks, the care, the concern, the fun, the sheer want to have them around, the empty when they weren't there?
Do you remember when it became commonplace? when you no longer had the same drive to be by their side? When it became routine, when the newness wore off and the love was still there but the spark was gone?
When the humdrum of every day life tore apart the joy and you are/were just going through the motions. When their chewing got too loud, when their cute little habits became huge irritants?
Do you remember or did it just fade overtime?
When you stopped working at it, it was comfortable, too much work to get the giddy back.
Do you remember when it was gone? Probably not.
The church is in the same boat. They have not left their first love but they have become comfortable and complacent.
The joy of the relationship, the commonality of purpose have faded to be replaced with routine. The church no longer speaks with Christ but for Him. The church no longer listens, routine and ceremonies have taken over.
There is no spark anymore.
Rev 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
We have not left our first love, we have relegated Him to a backseat.
When we pray do we listen?
When we sing do we praise or just routine?
When we read is it heart opened or just a checklist mark?
The church has become lukewarm. Whether it be age, the world, complacency, weariness, or perhaps something more sinister.
Perhaps we have started believing that we have all we need, we are good.
We are not. We have stopped listening, we have stopped seeking, we have stopped searching.
It is too hard, we are too busy, God doesn't really talk to us anymore. Miracles are not needed because we have money, medicine, etc.
Do we still believe in what we teach and preach? Do we still believe our God is awesome and able?
If we still believe it do we still live like it?
There is a comfort-ability, complacency in the churches in America. We have let our faith recede, we are resting on our laurels.
Don't get me wrong I am sure that not all is lost, but we have gone down a path that is not good.
We have 1 maybe 2 services a week and we consider our obligation done.
We are not living the life by and large. We are not on fire and passionate as we used to be.
Stop talking, stop speaking at Him start speaking with Him. Listen, open your eyes, don't get 4 wall syndrome in your church. See it as it is.
The House of God Almighty. A place to Worship. Not a social club. You are in the presence of Holiness in His House.
Come down from the mountain as Moses did, bathed in the Glory Of God. Meet with Him, learn of His needs, His wants, His Will.
Renew your interest in your God. Remember what brought you to Him in the first place. The Joy. The sheer want to be there.
