Moral authority

Last night we were watching a movie, in the movie one of the characters said something profound. Something you would not expect to see in a movie of this tenor.
He said "There is no God. Once you accept that there is nothing you can not do." He said this as he was defending his actions and behavior.

Granted this was just a movie wrote from a script with actors saying what they were told.

Even though this was a movie this one line stood out to me. This writer that put this line in was right on the nose with this statement.
When you remove God from your everyday walk and talk then your moral authority is what? Who provides the rules and laws that are acceptable? Fickle secular man?
If man is our moral authority, then who do we put up there as the example? Man made of clay, dust, and dirt to which he will return? Who would be good enough to set as the example? There are good men scattered throughout history, but are they good enough to set the example?
Man is inherently self-centered, undeniably fallible, and prone to wrong-doing.

If man sets our moral code then our standard is very low. Man did not create life so there is no value to it's taking. If man is the ultimate authority then there is no higher standard. I just have to be better than my neighbor.
If man is the end all be all, then we are doomed to a failing moral code as man rationalizes sin and wrongdoing as illness, sickness, and even as okay.
Where do we draw the line on allowing wrong to be right if man is the supreme judge?
Where does the depravity and the sin stop? If man is the moral code setter then as man sinks into  the morass of confusion that is today's thinking we have no bottoming out option as there is no top to measure it against.

We have taken away the best example and lowered it to make ourselves the ultimate authority. We have used word parsing, rationalization. and softening of the language to normalize sin and wrong doing. We have let depravity and perversion become acceptable.

All because we have removed God from Society so we can do what we want when we want and not have to worry about answering to any higher authority or even our own conscience.
The wisest man who ever lived , Solomon. wasted his life on women, money, and comfort. He did have a few accomplishments but in the end he knew God was the focal point of life.
God is the judge and jury. He is the Alpha and Omega. God is watching. All we have comes from God. He watches and He judges.

Ecc 5:8  If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.

Ecc 5:18  Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.
Ecc 5:19  Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.
Ecc 5:20  For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.
