Why does God allow things?

I was thinking the other day about how God could allow this once great nation to be in the state it's in.  I knew the answer already, however knowing the answer and understanding the answer is not necessarily the same thing.
Then a couple of days later I realized it wasn't God who allowed it. It was us.
The silent majority, the can't be bothered to speak up because I have my own problems people. The ones who won't fight or stand up for fear of being called a name or being ostracized.
There was a quote " The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

This is where we are at today. Good men have stayed silent.
We have said well if God Wills it, or I am just one man. We have stood by and thought it can never happen here.
This once great nation who was a moral beacon to the world is now a leader in the perverse and we are spreading it, our perverseness to the world.
We have allowed idleness to take over our kids and our youth. They are now "bored" always, they are "entertained"  and amused constantly.
We have lost our authority because we have failed to enforce it.
Ephesian 4:17-23KJV
 17This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: 19Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20But ye have not so learned Christ;21If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

What happened to us? We took the rules and we applied it to the church and forgot that we are to apply those rules at home, at work.
We forgot that we are to be in the world but not of the world. We have allowed the world to run our church, our homes, our lives. Instead of allowing God to run it.
We have allowed what has happened. We have not been holy as God is holy, we have been holy compared to "them".
We have not measured ourselves against God's standards but against the standard of those around us.
We have said "they are not good I am better than they so therefore I must be alright".

We have failed God. We have failed future generations, current generations and past generations.
We have failed those who laid the foundation for us, we have failed those here today because we did not give them that firm foundation. We have failed future generations because we did not equip the current generation to stand.
 We are to blame.
We allowed it.
And now it maybe too late.
