Sin.
Instantly satisfies the itch.
Long term?
Destructive!
Why is it that we tend towards those things that are so satisfying in the moment, yet are bad for us??
Why do we sin so easily when we know it is so bad for us? When we know it will destroy our body, our testimony amongst other things.
Why must we give in? It is because of the natural human side that is so strong?
Is it because that is the side we nurture and feed the most?
Is it because we just have not transcended the flesh, we have not achieved "spiritual perfection"?
It is so easy just to say i can't be perfect so why try. Or perhaps we say I can do whatever I want and God will forgive me.
Both of those statements are wrong, ill- conceived and self delusional.
We can never achieve perfection yet we must strive to be as perfect in Christ as we can be.
Leviticus 11:43-45 KJV
43 Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby.
44 For I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
45 For I am the Lord that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.
We can sin, and God will forgive. Yet there does come a time when Christ and God will draw the line and give you over to a hardened reprobate heart. God will remove those that are no longer fruitful from the tree.
Titus 1:15-16King James Version (KJV)
15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
Whilst we may never reach perfection, it is the intent of the heart that matters.
God does not care about the individual sin. He places all sin in the same category, none is lesser or greater. It is all sin.
The pleasure of sin is but for a season, the pleasures of God are eternal. Perhaps we need to reconsider our value system, our timeline, our purpose and vision.
God has given us the best, why would we turn again to our sin? Why would we choose for the moment instead of for eternity.
Why do we choose the destructiveness of sin? Why do we spurn the Law of God? Why?
Sin is but for a season, And sin is for a lifetime. One sin can change your life for the rest of your time here on earth. 1 sin can kill, affect thousands of lives for the worse.
Pray daily for God to give you the strength to prevail, the strength to do the right thing minute by minute.
