This is how many of us look at tithing and giving. We are looking at it as to what our giving gets us, not that tithing is our duty.
It is our responsibility. Why you ask? Remember the words of Christ in Matthew 6:33
"Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you".
What things?
Christ in the previous verses of Matthew 6 tells the people to not worry about clothes or food or rest. That God shall provide your needs. Needs not wants. Needs, not desires of vain wanting.
Here in today's America -a place of excess, a land of plenty- we have no idea what true poverty is. We have no idea how to do without for the most part.
We consider a cell phone a necessity, we consider a car, fast food restaurant, a necessity. We have no idea of true faith. True dependence on God. We pray out of our excesses not out of our needs.
God never promised a mansion, 4 bedrooms and 3 bathroom houses, 2 cars, 3 and 4 meals a day with snacks in between. We do not know what we need! We only know what we want. What we desire.
We have gotten so inured with the creature comforts that we have forgotten and have no time for the Creator.
We pray for our paltry needs, we pray to God out of our own misguided "needs",
What do we truly need?
What is truly best for us?
God's Will.
Revival.
Spirit filling.
The courage to witness.
The strength to do what is required of us (tithing, church attendance, witness, confession to God etc),
We need to tithe because it is our duty. Not just to get a blessing, Remember God knows your heart and your intent.
We should tithe because where your treasure is there will your heart be also. You give to the Kingdom of God for the interest rate there is far better than it will ever be here on earth. The return on your investment is eternal! God loves someone who gives out of joy knowing that their money will save souls, further His Word.
The same applies to your time and talent.
Get out and serve! Sing in the choir, teach Sunday School, work in the nursery, drive the bus, be a bus helper, shake hands, share a smile.
Nothing on this earth matters except leading souls to Christ, God will not ask you how comfortable you were on earth. He won't ask you how much was in the bank. He won't ask what car you drove.
God will look at your account in Heaven, your standing with the bank of Christ. The souls you touched and helped lead to Christ, the amount of witnessing. Giving to missions, church attendance. How many lives you affected for Him.
Now there is nothing wrong with big houses, nice cars. As long as you are putting Him first in all things. He very well may give you those very things, however, He may instead give you other blessings.
Who are we to question the Creator? Can we know the mind of God? No. We can only do what He asked us to. We can only do what is in His/our best interest. If we do that which is best for His Will, according to His Word, it is in our best interests.
God I gave according to what you have blessed me with, I tithed. Father now bless the gift and use it
Lord for your Glory and for your honor.
That should be our prayer, our intent, our desire.
