We all know the story of Noah. We all know the flood destroyed a wicked and sinful people. However do you know of the 120 years that were allowed by God before the impending judgment? The long-suffering of God? The mercy He showed?
3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
So many times we hear of how God did this or that in the Old Testament. I read a comment that said "I am an atheist that studied the bible, God destroys as in the flood with no warning or reason". First if they say they are an atheist odds are they did NOT study the bible but cherry picked their way through it. God did have His people make war on others who worshiped false gods. He did have a great flood. He did have the ground open up and swallow people whole. However, our God is a just and righteous God.
Man sinned, man fell short. God sent His Son to die for us to get us a way out of our problems we created.
God caused a great flood, it wiped out all life on the face of the earth. However, it was the sin of man, the disregarding of God. The perverseness of humanity living for pleasure and neglecting God.
God, in His mercy, did not immediately destroy man. He gave them the space of 120 yrs. He gave them time to repent. He gave them far more than they deserved. More than they gave Him. Apparently He could not get them to acknowledge Him.
We are the reason why bad things happen. Through out history man has made mistakes starting in the Garden of Eden. We turn from God as a people, we seek out evil, sin, and pleasures of the flesh.
God shows a long-suffering mercy, patient, caring, and totally undeserved by us. The children of Israel rebelled, murmured and worshiped false idols. Repeatedly. We the Christians of today do the same thing. We rebel against God. We murmur against Him. We refuse to acknowledge Him. We can barely be asked to attend services once a week.
God's mercy is long-suffering. But it does have an end. David had the same problem in his day and that was approximately 4000 yrs ago.
Genesis 6:1-7
King James Version (KJV)
6 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

Psalm 123:3-4
King James Version (KJV)
3 Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.
Throughout the ages God has judged His people. He has allowed them to be subjugated, dispersed, persecuted and homeless.
We today have taken the examples provided to us in the Bible and have trashed their memories, thrown aside the lessons, and made their sacrifices in vain. We sit on our hands whilst the sin goes unchecked in our nations.
Can we expect God's mercy for long in this world of today? We the people of God stand by and allow the corruption. We allow perverts to make the laws, we allow sinners to prevail by our silence. We have stood by and allowed them to teach evolution as a fact to marginalize God. We have allowed them to belittle and berate our schools into getting God out. We have allowed them to appoint judges who are liberal and not after God's agenda but their own. We have failed to voice our beliefs in the pulpits, the voters ballot, the mainstream media, or anywhere for fear of being mocked.
God's mercy is not going to be on us forever. We must make a plea to God Almighty both verbal, and in action. We must show this nation is still worthy of His mercy.
