Gideon and God's Glory

The last post was about Gideon and God's call. In the middle of that was something that I think needs a little more inspection. In the middle of the passage when God is telling Gideon to thin the ranks of men He gives a very specific reason for doing so.

Judges 7:2 KJV
And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

Our God is a jealous God. He wants us to understand it is Him and Him alone who delivers them from the current situation. He has made it abundantly clear throughout the bible when He delivers it is in a way that only He can get the glory so that all may know who the one true God is.

When He brought the plagues to Egypt in Moses' time He defeated the Egyptian gods at their strengths. Including the god of Egypt at that time - pharaoh. The final judgement brought on Egypt took pharaoh's first born son to show that none are greater than Him, The Lord Jehovah.
In the lions den He shut up the mouths of the lions to spare Daniel, but then the people who accused Daniel were torn apart by those same lions.
The 3 Hebrews thrown into the furnace were spared and God walked with them, but the ones throwing them in were not spared they were burned instantly.

Exodus 34:14

King James Version (KJV)
14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Our God is a  jealous God. He is the only God and wants everyone to know it. He makes sure that when He moves it is in a way that can only be attributed to Him.

God created man for fellowship, joy, and worship. He wants to be our everything. He wants the creature to fully appreciate and understand that the Creator is the reason for our being.

John 11

King James Version (KJV)
11 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

In the New Testament there were several instances where Christ tells the disciples that the sick or lame were sick and lame solely to be used for God's glory. Such was the case with Lazarus. Lazarus died and was in the grave for 4 days. He died for no other reason than that Christ could be glorified as the Son of God. After 4 days it could not be said that he swooned, slept, coma etc.. He {Lazarus} was dead and buried. His sisters were opposed to the door of the tomb being moved because he would be decomposing and stink.
When Lazarus walked out of that grave God was glorified, and it was done in a way that no one else but God could have the glory.

In your life in your trials I am sure that if you will think of the times you were delivered from a trial or problem then I am certain you will recall that it was only in a way that God could have done it. If nothing else when you look back and see all the times and trials you will see the work of God not just with the answer to prayers but to the prayers that were not answered.
God works in our life for His glory. He works in our life to get the best situations for us to serve Him. He works in ways for His Glory.
Many times we ,following our own desires, lusts, wants etc we deter that course He set for us because in the end we do have free will. Let us not however confuse free will with wisdom.
BUT as in my life He has used the bad choices, and there were a lot, and has brought me to where I need to be. The oddest part is (and I know you know this but understanding it is a totally different thing)for the first time in my life I have found happiness.
When we glorify God, follow His Will, once we let go of our personal desires, and serve Him then happiness can be found. It isn't in our ability, our strength, or our goodness. It is all through His power, for His Glory. This does not mean we shall have a perfect life free of strife or trouble it means that we have the peace of knowing that God is working in us and through us to further His will. Knowing that no matter what, we have Him in our corner beside us.

Give God the Glory and then you can find inner peace.
Our God is a jealous God, praise Him and thank Him for all. Be still and know He is God.

Psalm 46:10-11
King James Version (KJV)
10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
