Proliferation of information

I was sitting here the other night watching tv and playing a game on the computer. I stopped cold wondering why am I wasting all my time on this stuff?

Here I am with all the bibles, commentaries and resources at my fingertips that I could possibly want. I have 2 bibles on my iphone and a Ryrie Study bible in my truck. And yet I use them at specific times of the day and the rest of the time they are collecting dust. Information not used is as worthless as no information.

William Tyndale suffered and eventually died to print and get the word to the common people so the church was not the final authority on God's Word as it was becoming corrupt.
 Brother Andrew a few years ago was risking life and limb to get the Bible out to the world where there was hostility and persecution towards the Word of God and His servants.

2 Timothy 2:15-16

¹⁵ Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

¹⁶ But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness

 

Now generally Timothy is called a pastoral epistle and thought to be for preachers, evangelists, Teacher etc.....

 

But at what point does the average layman not need to study? When you do not study the Word of God for yourself you are placing your understanding of the Word in the hands of fallible man.

I would much rather have the Word myself and verify what is being taught/preached to me from the Infallible Word of God. When there is a falsehood presented to you whether knowingly or not by a "teacher" then how will you know unless you yourself rightly Divide the Word of truth with the leading of the Holy Spirit?

 

We have so much access to the Word of God that it is no longer precious to us. We have flooded the market with God's word, man's interpretation and more ways to study than ever before. Yet we spend less time doing so.... We want the cliff notes. Short sweet to the point and done.

 

In all my posts perhaps the one consistent thing there is: study and pray. That is a constant. We MUST study and pray. There is nothing wrong with commentaries or books by godly authors, But there is something wrong with us going to them instead of to the Godly Word.

We are so interested on getting an opinion and not spending too great a time on any one thing that will take us away from the tv or the family or the chores, Yet we allow ourselves to be taken away from the one who gave us all that God Almighty Himself.

 

We pray for revival. We know our nation is going downhill fast. We know society is corrupt. We know SIN is prevalent in all aspects yet the two things we must do to fight this descent into unrighteousness we do not do.

 

Study and pray.

 

Without studying the Word of God we will not know His Will or direction for us our family our state our Nation. Without Prayer we will not have the strength or moral backbone to stand for Him. We must acknowledge God. Get our churches to at least 3 services a week, get our Sunday Schools strong. Let Him work through us and Seek His Will in our lives.

We must start shutting down the tv, turn off the devices , silence the constant sound and open the Word of God. We need to start today. We are running out of time in this ole world to get the Word out and to get people in to the Flock of our Shepherd Jesus Christ..
