Tonight on the way home from church I was hit with a random thought. All sins are the same. Sin is sin. Don't ask me why but the question of "which is worse the child molester or the liar?" came through my thoughts and floored me. The child molester hurts a child, the family and with the rippling effect 15-20 people. Whereas the liar can hurt thousands with ripples. The pyramid schemes bilking people out of millions, the televangelist causing thousands to lose heart and turn away from Christ, etc......
In the Book of James we are told that guilty of one point of the law guilty of ALL.
James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. KJV
We need to stop and not see the "little white lie" we need to see the sin as God does. Black
Sin as we know keeps us from Gods fellowship. Death in the Bible refers to the separation of spirit from body. Eternal damnation refers to separation from God. This is the final death and the true death. Separation from the light of the Truth. So as we take this from the beginning of a "little white lie" to it's final culmination we know that this sin keeps us from our fellowship with God. Effective Prayers, faithful testimony, and peace of mind. This is the result of a "little white lie". This is also the result of mass murder, child molesters, and rapists.
Now I do not know about you but I never think of myself in the same category as the last 3 offenders, but in God's eyes sin is sin. Guilty of one point guilty of all. Now granted the consequences generally are equal to the magnitude here on earth, but in Heaven during the final judgment all sin is sin.
The price we pay is loss of fellowship, pricked conscience and ineffective prayer life. That "little white lie" now has become a hindrance. It can stop our prayers from being heard on the one day we need it most, when that one soul needed us but we missed the moving of the Spirit because of the sin, When We needed the strengthening of God and His peace but our "little white lie" has become 2 ton boulder we can not see around.
In todays world we want to modify, quantify and categorize. WRONG! there is no justifying SIN. Only the consequences of it.
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God Romans 3:23
There is none righteous no not one. Romans 3:10
The wages of sin is death but the gift of GOD is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord Romans 6:23
1 John 1:8-10
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Well we have the diagnosis (sin), the cure (Confess to GOD and repent) and the resulting restoration. But the hardest part of the whole process is admitting that sin, Our SIN, is SIN. We must see ourselves as God sees us and not try to justify our actions, that we are not bad people just a little thing we did. We are human and have a human nature that will always be weak and fall into temptation. We can not dwell on it nor do we want to harbor it. We must confess it and move on.
