How many times do we talk of the faithfulness of Paul, of the determination and the singleness of purpose in his life.
We know he
got a little down and depressed at the end, it shows in his writing. Yet there
is another time Paul threw his hands up and walked away.
Act 18:5 And when Silas and Timotheus were come
from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that
Jesus was Christ.
Act 18:6 And when they opposed themselves, and
blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be
upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the
Gentiles.
Act 18:7 And he departed thence, and entered
into a certain man's house, named Justus, one that worshipped
God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.
Paul, when
Silas and Timotheus caught up to him started testifying and preaching to the
Jews. It what Paul always did, he preached in the Synagogues despite the
persecution for they needed to k now the truth. Yet this time when the Jews
opposed, and blasphemed Paul was pressed in the Spirit.
It is
exasperating when you are witnessing, testifying, preaching over and over and
the people will not receive it, but they get even more vehement in their
dealings with you. We have all been there.
Paul, as well,
got human, got angry and walked away, perhaps not a righteous anger? But and I
must stress this part, Paul got done just a few minutes short.
Paul went
unto a man named Justus’ house and he was prepared to be done with the Jews.
But God was
not done, despite Paul’s exasperation.
Act 18:8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the
synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians
hearing believed, and were baptized.
Act 18:9 Then spake the Lord to Paul in the
night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
Act 18:10 For I am with thee, and no man shall
set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.
Act 18:11 And he continued there a year
and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
God rewarded
Paul for his faithfulness in a big way. Crispus the chief ruler of the
Synagogue believed on the Lord, with all his house.
And many of
the Corinthians hearing, believed and were baptized.
God rewarded
Paul, even though Paul was fed up, ready to stop telling them the good news.
Paul was Done, but thankfully God was not.
You know the
best part? God was working while Paul was getting exasperated. God was working
for He had pressed Paul in the Spirit to go to the Jews, Paul saw the moment
not the God.
Paul was
done, God was not.
