Father's Day. A Day of remembrance for the Fathers in your life.
A day for you to reflect on your kids, waiting for them to call or text, send a gift, let you barbecue for them whatever the case may be.
We often take father's day to talk of how to be a good dad, a good husband and Father.
Perhaps we ought to talk about how much better we should be as children?
Our Father in heaven gave us so much, what is the return on investment He is getting from us?
Where are the accolades and parades in His honor?
I just wrote a post and in it I referenced that we, the Christians of today, are by and large horrible children. There was no thought of that for Father's Day but as I pondered it even further I realized that it is very true.
If we treated our earthly Father as we treat our Heavenly Father most would call us bad children.
Father's day has devolved into barbecues and fishing trips and just being a lazy person for that day.
Why is it Mother's Day the children all get together and go to church as a family and take mom out, but Father's day churches are empty?
Is not our Heavenly Father worthy of your time?
The fathers of this nation are not accurately reflecting the Father above as we are supposed to, we have made it all about us, rather than all about Him.
Trust me our children are learning that lesson very well. Why do you think the median age of the average church goer is 45 or older? It certainly is not because of the example He set for us. So it must be the example we set for them.
That's the common denominator. Us. Our failures as Dads to set the example. Our failure as dads to reflect our Heavenly Father.
This nation is failing because we dads failed. We did not fight for the future of our nation, our children and our grandchildren. No we went fishing, or video game playing.
You say "but that isn't so". Look at the average Gospel preaching church and the waning worship size and services. What used to be crowds in the thousands for hours has become 10's for minutes.
We have failed for we minimized God and our children are learning that lesson well, for they see what is/was important to us. Even now as we get older we will not be able to recover or make up for lost time.
We must face the facts: We did not honor God, they will not honor God.
The Father in America is laughed at, both in the home and in the pulpit. Watch any TV show, for the most part the kids, the wife are portrayed as more more astute and capable than the dad. Look anywhere and see God and His house mocked and disparaged throughout the media.
We did that.
We allowed that.
Father's Day. time to get back to respecting the Father. It may very well be too late for our nation but we will never know if we do not try to salvage it. If we do not at least try, what does that say about us?
