Joh 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
Joh 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Joh 20:29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
Thomas believed once He saw the nail holes, and the wounded side, but notice the next part.
Blessed are they that believe without seeing. That encompasses all who have come before and after the disciples, who have believed their testimony, the written Word of God, and the Testifying of the Holy Spirit.
I touched on this in an earlier post this week, but we the believer, who has never seen but believed are truly blessed. We are blessed for our belief in the Son of God, we have believed without seeing.
We go out and minister, witness and testify of The Christ, having only (yes I get the shallowness of the word "only" used here) the Word and The Spirit. We take so much on faith, whereas the disciples who became roaring lions after the Resurrection, did so only after seeing Christ alive.
The disciple and apostles witnessed, and performed, miracles, they saw the dead rise, the deaf hear, the blind see. Yet it took the Resurrected Christ for them to fully believe and mobilize to change the world.
They were blessed to have walked with Him, talked with Him, learned from Him, received power directly from Him to cast out demons, heal the sick, and make the lame walk.
The day of Pentecost they had a great revival, Peter preached the Gospel after the Holy Spirit came and the disciples were speaking in languages they had never known before. God did a mighty work for all to see, Peter explained that work and thousands were saved.
Act 2:40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
Act 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
How much more so are we blessed? We go out and labor for souls and get down and dejected when there is no response. Yet the labor we put forth for even one soul is far more intensive than the day of Pentecost, in my opinion.
We have not the mighty works for people to see and believe, we have our testimony, the Spirit working with us and the Word of God. We fight a great battle every time we labor for just one soul to be saved, the results may be the same but the effort is not. Nor will the rewards be.
For we go forth into a world that has not seen, does not know, a world that didn't eye witness the works of Christ, a world that doesn't have the thousands of eyewitnesses to testify of it.
This is not to belittle or minimize the works of the apostles, it is to place perspective on what we do.
We have heard and we have believed, blessed are we.
We have taken that witness and testimony to a lost and dying world armed with our experiences, The Written Word, and the Holy Spirit.
We have persevered in the face of many who scoff, disbelieve, and refer to God as a "sky fairy".
We have maintained in the face of a world that does not want nor need (as far as they know) Jesus.
We have spread the Gospel throughout the world for something we have no physical knowledge of, just of the Hope that lays in us.
We are blessed.
We always talk of the one we want to speak with in Heaven and how they did what they did, How they felt about what they did.
I believe they will want to talk to us of our faith, our perseverance, and our labor.
There is joy over one sinner that comes to the Lord. Why?
Because it is such a hard thing to be done in this world. When a sinner comes to the Lord, it is a great thing for they have had the Spirit reveal it to them and they have believed.
We must plant the seed, we must in the face of overwhelming odds, preach the gospel and let the Spirit prick the hearts of man.
What we do is not easy, for we have so much working against us.
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Just as Paul, we need to stay true, for we have a crown laid up for us that was not available to the OT saints, We will have a crown that they will oohh and awe over..
So keep revering these men and women of God, given to us for an example, remember them, for they have a purpose in the plan of salvation but we are no less than they.
We are Children of God and we will all be in heaven one day. The saint of today is just as valuable and worthy as those in the Bible. The believer today is just as important as those in the Bible, if you are a believer then you are a miracle of God.
Stay true to God, finish the course, fight the fight to the very end.
2Ti 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
2Ti 4:6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
2Ti 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
2Ti 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
