Nothing makes Christianity look sillier than these articles and the people who write this sensationalist stuff.
We have had several "Christians" in the last 50 years try to pin a date on the Rapture, we have had cults, sects, false teachers all try to say they are "the christ".
All this is leading people to ridicule the faith, and the Bible. The kids of today (and by kids I mean 30 and under) address the Bible as a fairy tale.
I know throughout history people have tried to belittle it but when persecution is present faith grows. We are facing a different type of problem.
Complete and total apathy.
We know the Bible has been proven true time and again. We know Christ lived, and died here on earth. We know that there is a God and that He created the Heavens and the earth.
But we have lost 2 generations. The apathy is on our part. Apathy definition "lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern."
Think on that one for a moment.
Our pulpits ring hollow because there are so many false ones spreading lies, prosperity theory, feel good, power of positive thinking, and sin is an outdated term, malarkey.
John the Baptist came preaching 'repent for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand.'
John the Baptist was imprisoned for preaching sin, not to the people oh no this guy, he went straight to the top and preached against the king's sin. He didn't just preach of the king's sin out in the desert, no he told the king himself of his sin.
Yes John was imprisoned and beheaded but Herod feared John, Herod enjoyed talking to John, Herod respected John.
Mar_6:20 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
I am not saying individually we have not done the job, I am saying collectively we have failed.
We have lost the moral high ground because we refuse to call out sin. We set our battle lines and then slowly we retreated. They didnt win we forfeited.
Paul in Corinthians called out sin and told the church to censure the one guilty of the sin. Paul did not name the individual, so he kept church business in the church. He didn't take it out to the world for the world to know the church's problems.
1Co 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
Paul had no trouble calling out by name the false prophets and those working against him, he had no problem preaching Christ to Festus and Agrippa.
Paul stood no matter the cost against sin, against the apostasy prevalent in the church, and against the immoral culture that he faced every day.
Paul preached the Love of God as well as the judgment of God that surely must come. For a Pure Just God can not look down and condone the sin in this world He must judge it by the very standard of His Holiness. Therefore God's very Love that redeemed us, must also judge us.
Today we have lawyers and their organizations that fight the fight. The pulpits have mainly gone silent on sin, immorality, false prophets, and the culture of today.
The pulpit has gone silent on accountability, standing for Christ, how to vote, and how to live.
We rely more heavily on the courts than on the Word of God to take our stand. When the courts decide against the Word of God, we shake our head and say it's the Law of the Land. There is no Law but God's Law. There is no morality but God's Morals. There is no way but God's way.
We fail to tell ,daily, of the Christ who died for me for fear of offending. We fail to witness because they might take our job, they might not talk to us.
We laugh at sin on our tv's, our phones, our computers, we look at it, condoning it by the very silence that deafens the air around us. we let commercials on tv push a lifestyle that is against the Word of God. We are completely desensitized to sin because we let the world in all around us and the Word of God sits silent on our tables, in the car waiting for the next church service.
We look out into the world and see the sin and depravity, and then we turn away and look to our comfort, our convenience because we can't do anything about it.
The pew sitters are being failed by the pulpit fillers.
The lost and dying are being done a dis-service by the christian of today.
Posting a picture or a saying on facebook for your friends is not reaching the lost.
You say I stand with Christ in those posts but they reach only those who think like you.
What about the ones who will never go to your page?
What about the ones in the byways? the ones who need Christ that they have never received Word of Him?
Are we the light on the Hillside? or are we the light under the bushel that they have to truly search for?
WE have turned from the fire and brimstone, sin hating, sin denouncing, get out there and witness preaching to a much more reserved and timid preaching.
We let people walk out the doors of the church and never step on toes, never challenge the government.
They might take our tax exemption, they might stop tithing, they might.....
Let them.
We need people of God, not people with itching ears who want to hear the good stuff and not the truth.
We need preachers who will sound out the truth, who will call sin, sin.
We need pew sitters that will forgo the ballgame, forgo the weekend hunting at the cabin so that they might more effectively serve by being in the church at the appointed time.
Nothing wrong with hunting at the cabin, nothing wrong with the beach, or the ballgame, as long as it does not usurp God's time.
We might be labeled as homophobic, xenophobic, narrow minded, islamophobic, or other such ridiculous terms, but we will get the Truth out.
What is that Truth:
Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
There is no other way, there is no other name, there is no other purpose, there is no other Gospel but this.
Christ and Him crucified for the sins of the world.
Let the world label you however they want, Let the world speak out against you, they will respect you more if your walk matches your talk.
Mat_10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
