Luk 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
Luk 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
Many times when we read these accounts in the Bible we say that's specific to that person it does not apply to me.
Well, I believe that all of the Bible is good for all the time, all the people. Those who say the Old Testament is irrelevant, remember the Old Testament gave us the 10 commandments.
In these verses listed above Jesus was talking to Peter specifically, it is true. He was talking of Peter's coming trial specifically.
So what can we possibly derive from a personal conversation from years ago between Christ and Peter?
Well we can insert our name in the place of Peter's name and realize that it does apply to us. It does apply to today.
For Satan walks about seeking whom he may devour.
1Pe_5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Please note the author of that verse. It is the very same person who the conversation was with. Peter through the inspiration of the Spirit, tells us to be careful and to learn from his example that satan is trying to deceive you and sift you as wheat. It seems that the lesson stuck with Peter so much that he was warning everyone of the truth that was given to Him by Christ.
It means that we have the Holy Spirit praying for us interceding for us in the ears of God with groaning.
Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Rom 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Just as Christ prayed for Peter so too does the Spirit intercede for us.
Too many people today do not believe there is an actual satan walking the earth. Too many today believe that satan and hell are a myth.
If satan can go after Job, stop prayer answers from getting to Daniel and tries to divert Peter, you can bet he is going to go after you and me.
Just as God is no respecter of persons, neither is satan.
You will be treated the exact same as Peter by both God and satan.
There is a 100% chance of trials and temptations from satan if you are serving God. There is a 100% chance of you being led away by the wiles of the devil, if you are in God's Will.
Christ informed Peter of satan's goal, I believe that if you insert you name here you too can learn from this warning.
Heed the voice of Christ and beware satan for he will do all he can to divert you from the calling Christ has laid upon you.
The devil will seek to divert you, twist you from your goal and your purpose.
Thank God we have the Spirit interceding for us that we may have the strength and wisdom to know the attacks, withstand the attacks and be on our guard.
Make no mistake about it, satan is real. His desire to destroy you is real.
Just as Christ and His desire for you to serve faithfully and true is real.
We are in a battle, use all your resources to battle on.
